Crown land. Empty Crown land.

I have been researching thru various maps before getting out into the field with my detector, both printed and online, and I have found a great degree of difference in what is or is not crown land. I am looking at working in Castlemaine area.
Can some of you experienced hands tell me if there is a definitive, correct map that shows where we may prospect?. Or do we wait until the buckshot hits a sensitive area? Shocked
Thanks in advance for your help Very Happy

'bob -

I don't think there is a definitive "oracle". Suspect

For a starting point, are you aware of:
http://www.dse.vic.gov.au/about-depi/interactive-maps
They should THEORETICALLY be up to date and definitive (?):

Are you also aware of:
http://www.dse.vic.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0015/101571/Castlemaine_State_Forests_finalwithcolourmap.pdf
http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0018/313254/Castlemaine-Diggings-National-Heritage-Park-Management-Plan.pdf (see the map at the end for excluded areas)
They are typical of the hardcopy stuff that you can get from DSE/Forests/Parks offices, but notice they can be several years old.

Cheers
