14, or 16' Nugget finder coil for 5000?
Hi all just wanted to get your opinions on what is a good all-round coil for the golden triangle on the 5000? Im thinking neither the 14 or 16 Nugget finder, I currently use the 11' and doing ok with it but am after something a bit bigger but still want something sensitive!! Love to know your thoughts.

True Blue,welcome to the forum.
It all depends on what type of ground you prefer to work over. The 11 inch is a very good coil when it comes to maneuvering through rocky uneven or scrubby terrain and because of its more denser concentrated field, will find you the smaller bits(sub grammers) at greater depths than either the 14 or sixteen rounds. If your working clear flats with a bit of meat on them say a foot or so to the clay pan, then the 14 will more than suffice for the gram+ or multy grammers. The 16 and 18 inch coils are excellent patch finders where ground coverage is of utmost concern, over wide open flats and the slugs of gold are above the 10 gram mark in size, found at over a foot in depth. There is no one coil, that does the lot.To some extent, all different size/type coils, serve a purpose over the type of ground, depth, size or type of nugget encountered, and most importantly amount of ground mineralization or EMI encountered within the area your prospecting in.There are people here who swear by the 11 inch mono others over the 12x7,14x9,14 round or 17 elliptical as their preferred main coil, but which one can I say is the right or wrong approach, for they can all be right and wrong by sticking to one coil for all ground conditions. That's why I allow the ground to decipher coil choice for me.
Cheers Kon.

Re coil
I had a 16 and found it too big for round where I work.14 seems better,as kon said it depends what ground you are working.i mainly use the blitz coil.its good for getting its nose between the scrub.horses for courses I guess.big coils are a hand full to pinpoint with if your learning.elip coils are much easier.

Thanks guy's for the reply most the time I work scrubbie ground but was going to use a bigger coil in the open and in clearer ground I.E Talbot.. I have done a few years detecting and got it mostly down packed although Iv mainly used a small coil on a older machine working around the diggings, I wanto start covering some more ground quickly and working more away from the diggings in virgin ground with the 5000 targeting some bigger bits.

Re coil
Go with what you've got in your mind blue ,confidence in your gear plays a big part I personally think.A lot use 14s on here.the 16 I had was a great coil that I had, but just too big for where I go.it still picked up bb shot etc.ive got a 14 solid and it feels heavier than the 16 spoked,so another thing to consider solid or spoked .

The guy at Bendigo Gold informed me the 12x7 Nugget Finder coil was his best selling coil for Victoria - if that helps.

I have a 14" round, sometimes in the Triangle I find it a bit too big. Have you considered the 17X11 elip NF. Could be a good option.
