New METAL PAN.
HI All
I have a black plastic pan, and I find it is quite good to see specks in it ,but I met someone who supposidly knew all, anyway he convinced
me to buy a metal one. My question is ,how do you break in (season) A new steel pan?, it's to shiny . I thought I heard or read somewhere
that you throw them in your camp fire .

Re: New METAL PAN.
Mate not much wrong with the Black plastic pan the only point that sticks out about them is this. It is very hard to see the black sands at times when you cut down to the very fines. As for the metal dish to blue them you must place the on a fire till they turn gun metal blue then take them off the fire and let them cool naturally. Do not let them get red hot a steel pan is very different to a tin dish check this link out. Cheers James.

Re: New METAL PAN.
Note the bottom is "Blue" but not the top. Also done to get rid of protective oil/wax coating.

RE New METAL PANS
HI Whiskers and Geof
On the fire it goes until it turns blue, although I prefer the colour in the base of Geofs pan. lol.
Regards MAL.

Ark wrote:I blue the whole pan,why would not?
Because you are heating the pan from the bottom, if you leave it in the heat till the sides go blue the bottom would of over heated to a dull red.
Don't do this with your plastic pans I have and old Black Bakelite pan it great for photos

Re: New METAL PAN.
Ohh no ! You blue the pan in a camp fire not on a stove !!!! turn the pan upside down on the wood fire and watch it carefully as it blues and then turn it over as needed !!!!!!
