Might be another fox or a wild dog. I would think that a big cat would probably take off with the whole thing instead of eating in.

I know this thread is nearly 6 months` old ,but I just came across it .
A mate of mine says it is common practice to stick controlled poison bates in fox carcasses to kill other foxes. Apparently the only animals that eat foxes are crows & other foxes & if you stick poison bates inside a fox , it eliminates killing any other species.
I think the poisons are 1080 & strychnine.
I wouldn`t touch a dead fox just incase it has been poisoned.
