Gold sites in SA? Empty Gold sites in SA?

Post  Goldpaws Mon Mar 11, 2013 1:18 pm

Hi.. ok just have a few questions. I'm new to prospecting for gold and I live in Adelaide, SA. I've read up on the locations you can got to fossick (ie Mt Crawford) but on this site (w w w.treasureenterprises.com/gold%20prospecting%20information/gold_prospecting_locations_South_Australia.htm) for example, it mentions the goldfield and old mining areas. I guess my question is, can you simply go to these areas and start looking for gold? The SA fossicking site says "No permit is required to fossick within South Australia. However, you must obtain prior permission from landowners before entering their property." I guess I am just confused about what areas are public and where you're allowed to fossick apart from the 3 "designated" areas like Mount Crawford and Chapel Hill. I am new to this and have read a lot up on it but I'd love to find somewhere where I can find even a few small pieces... (who wouldn't I guess!).

Anyway, I'd love to hear if anyone has any decent leads in SA or areas where one can simply go and start fossicking that hasn't been fossicked to death! Whoever gives me a decent lead and I find somethin big, I'd totally share some of the wealth! lol cheers

I am leaning toward buying a new X-Terra 705 soon to help with my efforts...

Thanks!
Ben

G'day goldpaws! I'm in SA too. My best suggestion for you is 'due diligence' Laughing I know it will take some time and effort, but go RIGHT THROUGH this entire section of posts. You will find all kinds of advice, spots to try, what to do & NOT do ... you will find it all very helpful. cheers

Personally, I head off to VIC every couple of months, although I am now waiting for the rains to come ... then take out the pans to try a few 'far flung' places here in SA. Q17

Hello getascripter,

Thank you for your reply.. Yes I have been reading the forums a lot but am just confused about places like the old mines and goldfields and if they are generally accessible to the public. That's mainly what I'm wondering I think. Am also considering going interstate but like I said, I'm new to all this (tho I used to search for coins as a kid with my first detector). Wouldn't mind some sort of mentor but I'll work it out I'm sure haha! Smile Was thinking of going to Mt. Crawford or try to get permission to go on some properties around the Mt Lofty ranges...?

Thank you for your time and enjoy VIC... Is it easy to find some decent fossicking sites up there? Was thinking maybe NSW.
