The Nugget Scoop the best thing since sliced bread. I am not all that good at pin-pointing a target in the pile. This jumbo scoop lets you pick up a heap of dirt and find the target quickly. I got it mail order from "The Outback Prospector".
I have tried all sorts of kitchen and garden ware items trying to make the best scoop, because up until now I have not been able to buy a dedicated gold scoop from a supplier.
UNTIL NOW that is. The Nugget Scoop is available from http://www.aurumaustralis.com/pages/outbackprospector.html It can be hung from the D ring on your harness, or it can be put into a tool pouch purchsed at Bunnings, and worn on your harness belt.[/url]

check out pet food scoops, got one in woolies for $4, has higher sides on it and a straight edge at the front.... old timer saw it and wanted it so ileft it with him....now i have to go and buy another! might get 2 this time.
By the way, $4 for a plastic scoop is a rip off in my books.... how much is that fancy green one?

Fiskars make a selection of black plastic gardening scoops, they have an orange tip on the end of the handle, get mine from Bunnings, around the $1.50 - $2.00 mark, got a couple, whenever I loose one in the back of the car, I tend find the other one
They come in a couple of different sizes, worth a look and well cheaper than $4.00 plus postage.

Evan,
I think you are mistaken about getting those green scoops (in my photo) in a $2.00 shop. Perhaps you can send me a photo of one you have purchased from there.
Thanks,
Jigalong.
