Re: ITS OFFICIAL! Vic Roads acknowledges existance of big cats in Victoria
The panther like animals are real I saw one up close at Tarnagulla many years ago, but it is not a cat it has a face like an overgrown possum; it is a marsupial a native animal and it stood nearly a metre tall. The signs near Maryborough have had the big cats added by locals who have seen them so that people know where they are; and the one with an elephant is not really funny a circus lost an elephant at Maryborough about fifteen years ago and it took about four months to find it. No wonder elusive big cats can't be found if an elephant can hide for four months.

Hi Dennisw,
I think that elephant you are talking about was actually a fiberglass display elephant that was stolen from the front yard of a property just outside of Maryborough and it was found in the bush a few months later, probably dumped after the stolen item became a bit too hot for the thief.

If those cows ever get hit I wonder how much they will be fined for not obeying the road sign, damn smart cows I reckon.......

The lost elephant was real, it was found eating a woman's garden early one morning. It caused quite a stir locally at the time, I should ask the local paper or the Ranger, although the guy in the job at the time has since retired.
