Enfield State Park
First off some General Information to read about the Park Area before I post maps
http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/explore/parks/enfield-state-park
Fossicking at Enfield
Nearly half of the park is available for fossicking or panning for gold along Misery Creek. See the park note map for details. Remember to fill any holes made and leave the area as you found it. Relics are protected by law and must not be disturbed or removed.
All adults must hold a current Miners Right to engage in fossicking.
The Area I will post maps on is Picnic Point which is also called surface point and is the site of the Chinese camp site there is a camp area and DropToilets.
Mount Misery Creek
11.1859 Almost exclusively in the possession of the Chinese; a few parties of Europeans got between
80 and 200 pounds in a few days but this is confined to a limited space.4
12.1859 A considerable influx of Chinese who occupy 2 miles of the creek plus the flat on either side.5
01.1860 The Chinese are reported to have "hit it heavy", with one find paying 250 pounds per man per
week.6

Re: Enfield State Park
Thanks for putting up this info but unfourtanitly a lot of people in here , by their past responses , will ignore the relic part as well as abiding by the laws that pertain to any restrictions !

You better start loving your Detector Mate as this is not just a Panning & Sluice Location your 5000 will love this spot if you put the time in
A couple of 3D shot to show what the area looks like

Awesome stuff! 3D maps and all so my legs know what to expect!
Didn't go up on the weekend so def this weekend!
As for detector I have an old school Minelab Sovereign with a coin search coil that my old man sent over from NZ few years back.
Kinda like this but not identical
It'll be a few successful visits up there before I have a 5000 lol I will however have a sluice off Brad in a few weeks.
Anyone go up here over the weekend?

Re: Enfield State Park
Yeah enfield has some extremely steep slopes. Im not sure if enfield is alluvial ground or not because I looked around there and the chinese mines are very deep indicating that its deep lead.
First Trip
Hey all,
May have my first trip to this area soon....have looked at maps on this post and also where Parks Vic permit detecting and am planning to go to the area .5 to 1klm NW of Mt Misery itself (as shown on first map on this thread).
What are your thoughts on this location ??

Re: Enfield State Park
Harro have been up around the area a couple of times still no luck. Steep and gets sloppy in winter. Gerry be careful around Steiglitz i believe only can pan and detect 100 metres down stream from the bridge in town, the rest is either historical reserve or Nat Park. Mostly deep ground but gullies along South Steiglitz Rd and Sutherland's Creek where most of the action was.
