Re: 177 oz nugget Ballarat area
For all intent purposes it's a deep lead nugget for sure!
I suppose there's a chance he just happened upon said nuggy while teckten a worked out deep lead!
sure would take a lot of water to move that sucker, maybe the guy on the hydraulic was rollen a smoke and the rest of the crew were too sozzled

In the past it has always been “Minelab about to release a new model”
The holidays are about to start etc, etc
Maybe people are just a little tired of being taken for chumps .
I always thought people got wiser with age , but i dont know about that anymore .

Re: 177 oz nugget Ballarat area
I knew a guy who genuinely found a big nugget, over 100 ounces, genuinely found it with the then latest minelab, over ground he had detected before. Sometimes these things are true. Prospectors are overly suspicious.
What wasn't genuine is where he found it, even the general area.

Re: 177 oz nugget Ballarat area
It does seem to happen quite often close to a holiday period. Just coincidence .
An why is it that I reckon I have seen that nugg before when obviously I have not. It just seems that whenever a big nugg shows up it seems to be familiar?
probably some sort of Froydian thing. ......I dunno ar ta spel froydian, but so long as ut sarnds rite ven ut iz awl good hey!

I just wish someone would stop these guys from finding good nuggets just before a holiday period, so that other guys haven't anything to complain about, aka "conspiracy theories", because they are getting $^&*& tiresome after reading the same old, same old, many years in a row.
OR,
Maybe the guvenment and joolia, should change the holidays to confuse the buggers a bit.
Re: 177 oz nugget Ballarat area
Victorias golden triangle was the world richest gold fields with the worlds largest nuggetts, so its not suprising if a prospecter still turns up a large nuggett now or again , l dont see why some peoople think its faked to sell detectors or for tourism

I'm convinced that if some members here found a 177oz nugget they'd still believe they were some part of a ML conspiracy and they never actually found it!

Well I'm convinced if a member here found a 177oz nugget With a beat up old gold snoop they would be contacted by someone at minelab offering them money or products if Minelab could use their story and doctor it alot to include their Latest and most expensive product in the finding of that nugget .
Yep no doubt about it , confidentiality agreements and all . A nugget like that would be worth a fortune in marketing value for minelab.

Re: 177 oz nugget Ballarat area
Non-fiction, you should be careful posting stuff like that as it can be considered defamatory, in fact I think it IS defamatory to suggest that Minelab would stoop to that sort of thing.
As for it being worth a fortune in their marketing as the nugget was found with a minelab machine, quite true and they would be stupid if they didn't take advantage of it.

Re: 177 oz nugget Ballarat area
It was found with a 5000 ! But I'm thinking the wash was dug from deep and then detected !
This is my opinion and until the actual finder steps out and tells his story first hand I will treat all the media hype by whomever as nothing more than that HYPE!

Shiraz, I was only pointing out he could be at risk posting those sort of accusations. Nowhere did I suggest he should have his post deleted or the thread locked. He is free to say what he likes as long as he is ready to wear any consequences arising from them.
Actually I'm prepared to believe what the bloke said as it makes no difference to me where or how he found it as long as it was with the detector he said he used. As for it being deep lead, my opinion differs. I have seen many nuggets that look like that one that came from shallow alluvial ground. Same smooth surface with identical type of pitting.
In fact I held a 90 ozer once that had a surface almost identical to that one and that was found with a 2100 at about 2 feet under the roots of an ironbark tree. I'm not sure but I think it was found at German Gully north of Dunolly.
Cheers, Jim

There are more deep lead nuggets still in the ground but so deep that a detector will not find them ! My post still stands ! The thing about this story is the " under leaf litter ,600 mm down" thus alluding that it was found in a position that according to Minelab was found by a GPX 5000 Minelab metal detector . I do hope for its sake that's the truth ! Egg on face if it turns out that it was excavated by machine and then detected!

Re: 177 oz nugget Ballarat area
Ok love all the conspirecy theories keep em coming. I reckon that if the guy who found the 177oz nugget had a GPX 5000 theres
a 90% chance hes on this forum. In my opinion 100% chance. Im a betting man & i would have something on it!
So if just say that the Ballarat Gold Shops report of a 47 year old guy from Ballarat who has only been detecting for 3 months is correct.
Then he would have to be in the New Members Section. So as any keen CSI investigater would do ive scrolled through the old
New Members Posts from 6 months ago. Ive dwindled down my pick to one guy. Wont mention names. But here are the facts;
His location is Ballarat.
He has old pics from small nuggets found North of Ballarat. Were the nugget was supposedly found.
No face pic of him but his hand doesnt look old or doesn't look young. I'd say mid 40's!!
He had reguarly replyed to peoples pics of recent nuggets found. With "awesome find" (example) etc.
But has not made a mention on this nugget found!
His last appearance online was jan 18th but hasn't posted a thread!! So he is just looking
Anyway would love to here what you reckon!!!
Cheers Shane
