gympie, deep creek designated goldfields
Hello all... interesting day at Deep Creek, Gympie. Arrived at 07:30, and since it was our first time decided to have a look around first. Nice enough place if you try not to look at the rubbish flowing straight out of Gympie. After a wee bit of exploring decided to make camp. After breaking down a tub of clay i had dug from the bank of the outside bend, only found a few specks. A little dishartened i grabbed a pan full of sand out of the river in frustration and look what i found.....
good day over all. I will be heading back there tommorow. if anyone wants to show a rookie how to pan your more than welcome haha
P.s a also got a lot of specks, but i find it really difficult to pick up the tiny bits, i.e flour gold.
I think i must have thrown a lot back, although all i am working with is a pan, pick and shovel.
jumping onto ebay now... must buy classifiers and sniffer bottles....

update
Just an update after finding that nugget i spent 3 days at Deep creek. The only thing i found is fools gold and back-strain. i would say only hit Deep creek after a MAJOR FLOOD and only with a detector. no point otherwise
Cheers all Jazzo

Ark wrote:I don't believe it
Is that because it is reef gold
May have dropped straight out of the source
Or been dug out of a stringer
But I don't know that area

If I was you
I'd be going straight back to we're you found
That sharp edged nugget
As it hasn't travelled AT ALL
Good luck
And hope to see you follow and dig the rest of that stringer out
Maybe for the sceptical
You could take some pics of we're your working
Not location of coarse
Just the digging but and the ground indicators
Ie rocks and banks
All the best

Hey Jazzo,i might be wrong but if the spot has a small bedrock ledge myself and the father inlaw did a single pan there and took the cons home with us. we had to leave cause the kids were freaking out over the fresh shed skins all around and the overgrowth was waist high. cant post photo on this tab but got six little rough edged pieces that went .83. hope it helps. dave.

re:Gympie,deep creek fossicking area
Thanks for that Mike54,my wonderful other half only recently gifted me a new camera for our golding adventures. The deep creek pieces were our first ever find.I got the spot with a x-terra 705 gold pack.First time we had it out.Richy dug out a panfull of noisy damp soil and started to pan it and thats when the kids saw the snake skins and wanted to leave in a big hurry.Panned it out at home down to dark sands and Ritchy picked them out.Got a lot better at panning now though.
Sorry, forgot were I was.Going to take some and load up the laptop but bit busy on a project.
Thanks again and I wish you all luck there.I wont be back down there for a few years we hope. Dave
