Which Second Detector???
G'Day,
I would like a second detector for relics, coins etc. After looking at the Topic "PI vs VLF" I am thinking I should get one that discriminates well, and my missus could use when we get to the goldfields.
Without getting carried away and getting the new beaut CTX3030, what would be your recommendation???
I have a GPX5000. How far apart could we both operate at the one time? And is she still likely to pick up a few pieces? (Hopefully not too much more than me, I couldn't stand it!)

Re: Which Second Detector???
Hi Waznme, I use a Fisher F5 for coins and such. It's found over a thousand dollars in coins in the last two years, and countless rings and other jewellery. It's a great detector and you can get it off ebay for under $500.00. You can even get a 10" x 5" DD coil for it for gold prospecting.
Cheers Harry

Re: Which Second Detector???
G'day Waz.
Apart from the Fisher F5,the A/T Gold from Garret with its standard 8x5 Proformance DD coil will more than suffice for your needs,as long as you don't hunt over wet beach sands. It is specifically designed for gold but has very good discrimination capabilities for coins and relics. The only other detector that I know of,superior to this,is the latest Teknetics T2 Limited Edition with its 5 inch coil, has brilliant discrimination capabilities over coins/relics and is almost as good as the Gold Bug 2 on sensitivity, but with the added advantage of greater depth on all targets including gold over the 0.5gm mark. Both are VLF detectors. Both are capable of finding gold nuggets over a variety of conditions and/or soils.
Cheers kon61.

Re: Which Second Detector???
The most important thing is being able to tune you out!!!........I would go for an SD2100/2200(not modified) with an anti-interference coil(operating on a 7.3 volt power system) on the beach.....it is also a proven gold-winner, so it's a win win value for money.
Be lucky.
