Gold prospecting around Leonora and Laverton
Hi all, I am planning to head out to Leonora/Laverton with the wife and kids in September, for some gold prospecting. We are thinking of heading out to either Specking Patch, Murrin Murrin, Chain Bore or Royal Harry. Can anyone recommend some good bush camping spots near these areas? Will we need permission from pastoralists and/or mining tenement holders to camp on their leases?

permissions
You need to make yourself certain that the area you intent to prospect is either pending (not much out there in that category) and for all the others YES you must seek permission from the leaseholders........
You will find that it is not difficult to get permission to get onto most of that area of live tenements all you need to do is to know where you want to go..do your research and approach the lease holders......from my experience in that area if you do the right thing you will be allowed on under certain conditions without too much trouble
Unfortunately there seems to be a few that just go there and stuff it up for the rest of us
As for bush camping...all that area is suitable.....low shady bushes in various spots and lots of no shade elswhere......once you have your permissions in place..just camp near where you intend to prospect...its all much the same terrain wise..NO WATER out there
The area in general does not appear to be active pastoral leases...based on the condition of fences and stock water points (mostly non existent..poor state)...however they are still active as far as legal owners of the pastoral leases goes......once again select your area and notify the pastoralist of your intentions..they are the legal occupiers
seems like you have some research to do to get your permissions ...not difficult but essential

Re: Gold prospecting around Leonora and Laverton
Contact information for WA Pastoral Leases, many of which now have care taker managers living in the homesteads and are on the associated Mining Companies payroll.
The Mines Department in Perth.
They have a booklet (not for sale) at the information counter for public viewing.
You can also contact them (08) 9222 3333 during office hours.
Good luck
