What to check for in a second hand 4500?

I am in the process of upgrading my trusty extreme, and want to get into a 4500. My question is, besides checking the obvious things like serial numbers and what it looks like, are there any other things one should be aware of when buying one of these second hand?

Depends on where you are buying. From an authorised dealer, you should get warranty. Gen condition is also a telltale, dings and scapes indicates a machine tha may have been chucked in the back of the ute check condition and age of coils.

Fleabay is a different matter. You must check the feedback of the seller, I would only buy from a 100% feedback seller without a good number of sales in his name and only pay by PayPal and request registured mail delivery. You can check other items they have sold - make sure thay are not all $1 items just to get the feedback rating up. I have bought two expensive detectors on eBay without a problem.

If you buy and are still not sure - get the mnachine checked by Minelab - under $100

I purchased my 4500 second hand from a dealer. I found that it was a much safer way to go for little to no extra money. On top of purchase I recieved a trainning day and 3 months warranty.

Ring around, you might be suprised at what you can get. Takes the risk away compared to ebay etc.
