Getting started with a gp3000 Empty Getting started with a gp3000

Post  drk1986 Sun Dec 12, 2010 7:41 pm

hello,
just wondering if anyone knew some good books to help get started with a gp3000. me and some mates have one and are beginners to prospecting. We hired 4500's and on a third outing managed to find a small 2.8 gram nugget. Now we caught the bug and have managed to get our hands on a gp3000. Any info on how to set up ETC. from the more proffesional people would be much appreciated. We are in the kalgoorlie area.

Cheers

DK

Hi DK

First up you will want to be using a Mono coil for best results on the 3000 around Kal.
Always run the machine in "fixed" ground balance and balance it fairly often to keep it runnin smooth,
A little tip if your using small coils you will want to run the machine in a high frequency,
to do this you hit the "auto tune" button on the front panel and count to 30, then power
the detector off, this halts the machine in a high frequency which gives a better response
to smaller nuggets, and for larger coils do the same but only count to 5 then power off.

Use a slow swing speed of appx 3 secs from side to side and keep the coil as close
to the ground as possible, the odd scraping noise is perfect.

Lastly dont be lazy and bend your back to scan under bushes n trees as plenty
of gold is waiting under them due to the lazy buggers not lookin there.

Hope this helps

G'day Drk. Welcome to the Forum.

Couple The 3000 to either a Coiltek or Minelab Commander 11 inch round mono coil, and you'll have what i consider to be one of the best detector/coil combination that I've ever come across.

Cheers kon61.

Thanks for the info.. Do you usually find a patch/area you like and just go over it in One setting and then just change up the settings and go over it again?? How deep does a 3000 go roughly?? There are so many questions ha ha... It's a very addictive hobby... I love it though.. Just got to find some good spots... Thanks again for the info

Best to go over any spot with at least 3 different size and shape coils and from every direction,
if its thick scrub use a elliptical coil first and get the gold out, then if you do ok consider
clearing away some ground and bashing it to death with a lge round coil for the deep big dabs.
You must go over it from many directions because imagine if the gold is flat and sitting on its edge,
one direction you may miss it but the other angle it will give you a better signal.
When you fit different coils you will need to change your settings to suit that coil and get it humming
and runnin smooth, try to balance the machine a bit on the positive side to enhance the signal from small
bits, this may be a tad noisy but the gold you get will make your ears prick up and keep you keen..

p.s get yourself a good steel rake and never leave home without it..
