PC you are the font of all wisdom, tell me why coral can survive sitting in the hot sun for six hours but not survive slightly warmer water. Corals closer to the equator handle warmer water. And why do you question the ability of coral to adapt O wisest of them all?

Well the evidence is that the corals are suffering bleaching due to rising ocean temps combined with rising ocean acidity, sediment and nutrient runoff and cyclone damage. Some of corals types have never seen bleaching events before .

Re: Worth a look.
This is an interesting read in reference the Great barrier Reef.
https://www.aims.gov.au/information-centre/news-and-stories/great-barrier-reef-reviving-or-dying-heres-whats-happening-beyond-headlines
It would appear that the reef has the ability to recover from climate change rising temps , acid ocean and rising sea levels. Hell it might even grow larger?
On the other hand:
Why does it matter whether the reef survives or not?
As the temps rise and the water becomes too hot the fish will move to deeper cooler areas and the coral will continue / regrow further off shore.
The reef has been around for quite a while and appears to have survived a few Ice Ages and warming periods.
Maybe it is just the Tourist Industry that is worried that it will loose dollars.

Re: Worth a look.
Record coral cover doesn’t necessarily mean the Great Barrier Reef is in good health (despite what you may have heard)

"Better shape" - you must be joking! The Barrier Reef has lost half of its corals since 1995!

Re: Worth a look.
If you believe those who are constantly chasing government grants then you should take more notice of those who do not have a vested interest in the reef.
Peter Ridd for one. He was sacked for telling the truth about the actual health of the reef but there many others.

Ridd has been completely discredited!

Re: Worth a look.
Of course Ridd has been discredited. So has anyone else who has tried to tell it how it is, not how the doomsayers want it said.
Just as anyone who disagrees with climate change or supports nuclear in Australia is ridiculed by the doomsayers.
The poor doomsayers must have an awful life with all that doom and gloom hanging over their heads like chicken Little.
I like to look on the bright side of life not be a hangdog pessimist worrying about the end of the world.
Look around you, PC it's a wonderful world, enjoy it for tomorrow you may die, but not from climate change or extreme weather

Re: Worth a look.
I see this has turned into an argument for arguments sake. Facts, no facts, believe or not believe, give it a rest gents, for this topic has now overrun its course.
