Go-find 60 on the beach

I was thinking with summer coming up and anticipated days on the beach with the kids, that maybe I could get one of those Go-Find 60 to add a family activity that we could all have fun with. Although I appreciate that there are other more specialised detectors for the beach, the under $400 price tag is what appeals to me and I would expect it to be better than the Aldi detector that I have that's now collecting dust. Has anyone used these on the beaches and can give a quick plus/minus account of their experiences and findings?

A lot of views, but still no answers, seems like there's not too many people interested in these detectors...

The Go Find 60 works on the beach in the dry sand but suffers all of the problems of an inexpensive single frequency VLF metal detector when the sand is damp to wet....It gets noisy with lots of false signals which requires the sensitivity to be wound down quite a bit and so depth is reduced considerably.
A bit like an Ace 250.
Kids will like it for a while and then they will get tired of digging false signals.....Unless they stay up in the dry sand.

Just an opinion based on what I have heard from one operator.

Hi, CostasDee. I bought a GoFind 40 a few months ago. I haven't had a chance to use it at the beach yet but it is a great machine in the parks. I have found nearly $200 in coins from one park alone. Some of the $2 coins are between 4" and 6" deep. It is a very easy machine to operate and kids will have a lot of fun with it. I usually run mine in pinpoint mode all the time as you get better depth and a louder signal. When you hear a signal, look at the screen and if a coin signal is flashing most times it will be a coin. Sometimes the nail/horseshoe and coin symbols will both flash as if the detector can't decide what the target is. Most times the target is a $2 coin but down over 4" in the ground. When any coins are only 2" deep or less you get a definete load coin symbol flashing. In my opinion it is a great little detector for the money. When i detect in any parks i use my minelab pinpointer once i have located a target. This way you don't have to dig holes in the park. After i have pinpointed a target i use a long pair of pointed pliers to pull the coin out of the ground. If you buy one i'm sure you will have heaps of fun. Cheers Grumpy (Doug).

The 40 & the 60 are not depth giants but both work in the parks and gardens and school grounds.
Pinpointing is not so flash, due I guess to the odd shaped coil. and yes, like most VLF/Trs, the pinpoint mode tends to get better depth than the normal search mode but the pinpoint mode is affected by ground mineralisation.

The bloke using his at the beach was happy with the 60 in the dry sand and was able to use it to the water line with the sens down to around 25% of max, otherwise it was too chatty.
    There is not a lot of difference between the 20, 40 & 60 other than the number of TID Icons
I don't know what else there is around the 400 dollar mark that works well on wet salt beaches while being light enough for kids to manage.

Thanks guys for the responses, it seems like it is a bit lacking in the detector department as far as depth and wet sand handling, but it is a cheap $400 machine so I suppose I shouldn't really expect too much from it, I just didn't want for it to end up next to the Aldi detector in the cupboard. I'm thinking the kids have expressed an interest in going out detecting with me, and starting them on the beaches with summer coming on, might be a good beginning, and then later they might use it around the camp whilst dad's busy digging up the real targets (if only lol). I'm still not sure if this is a good enough detector or just a fancy toy, hence appreciating Grumpy's post and inviting other users too.

Sounds similar to what the chap I bumped into with the 60 at The Bay said , although he said he had to wind the sens down quite a bit to get OK operation in the wet sand and the shallows. Didn't mention the Disc, maybe he hadn't tried that.
So from what you have said it sounds like the 40 is quite usable on the wet sand if it will still find coin at 8 inches with sens down a bit and the first icon off.
Does the first icon go up to small iron like nails and tacks?
Even though I search for deep long lost stuff, the truth is that most of the beach items I have found have been within the first 8 or so inches of sand and the deeper targets have been very weak signals at 15 to 24 inches. I have yet to find a large coin deeper than 24 inches in wet sand.

I have used one up in Noojee in some pretty mineralised ground, I can say that even on the precious metal setting (jewellery, aluminium, high and low value coins) it does find a lot of trash, but I started to realise that if it gives of a massive signal unless its a 20+gram nugget its probably a big can or bullet, also goes about 2ft underwater which was good for sweeping banks of the creek. Not a bad machine for $400.
