wanting to try something new

Hi all, just starting out bought myself a garret at gold a month ago and have used it 3 times, have found some coins on the beach and am now trying the gold fields in my area (southern nsw) no luck yet, I seem to have a lot of problems with hot rocks (or maybe just the user) anyway i have just discovered this forum and found it to be a good reference for some of the problems i am having.
