What is the best DD Coil? Empty What is the best DD Coil?

There is always a lot of dicussion on monos, but I have heard little discussion on DDs. I would like to buy a DD about 10" or 12" for working in noisy areas such as I have encountered recently around Hill End and Bendigo.

People keep hinting about new DDs due out from Nugget Finder and Coiltek, but they are all very vague about it.

So, what should I buy and why ? A Minelab, Coiltec or Nugget Finder ?

Thanks,

Jigalong

PS . Is there elliptical DDs or only round ones ?

Jig,

Are you talking round or elliptical?
What's wrong with the Coil that came with your detector?. I don't think you'll do any better with a newer one at that size.
I've been told t will be some time before Rohan has a new DD. The coiltek range is good as is the Commander-just too heavy though.

Robert,

I would rather have an elliptical shape if they make them. So much handier for tight spots.

Hi Jig, are you going to be at the Hill End meet coming up?
If so I will show you a DD coil, had I had known about it I would have bought it myself.
It belongs to another member who ( Wil ) be there... What is the best DD Coil? Icon_lol
Its the older NF 14" elliptical DD, none xp model, and works a treat in that ground on the Extreme. So imagine how well it will work on the 4500 with all the combo's to play with?
Keep your eye out for them on ebay as they turn up every now and then.
Also the model after with the xp switch on the coil should be ok with its ability to work in Higher EMI situations.
Keep in touch with Tony mills from Dunolly, he has a few from time to time also.
From memory Bob bus may still have one of the none xp models, give him a call.

G'day Narrawa,

Thanks for that info. I am going down to Paramatta Miners Den this am and will have a look at the NF 14".

I am going up to Hill End this coming Tuesday and will return to Sydney on Friday. As my wife works and I don't, it seems unfair to leave her on her own on the weekends , so I must detect mid week or not at all. That makes it very hard to ever get to enjoy meeting all you guys.

Jig.

I would get a 10"dd elip (had one but never gave it a good chance). You can use it in mono mode and probably have the most sensitive detector coil combo there is for a PI.

Jig, Will see you there Thursdy arvo.
Shingold, I was using that combo today in sharp timings with the COM/DD.
It is a good combo to use in the area Jig is talking about, but ground coverage is the problem.
The 14 elip will do the same job, but cover more ground, which is very deceiving there as it appears to be shallow in most places but offers much depth that a few of have had the pleasure of digging a few big ones from.

Shinegold,
I bought a 10" elliptical today. I rather like the idea of a 10", because I can push into and under more "stuff'. I will try it in mono, thanks.

Narrawa,
I will be in the camping ground as I will be alone. Hope we meet out in the field. I wear a yellow cap and have a green harness with too many gadgets on it.

The reason why I never gave the joey a good go is because it signalled on specks of dirt as well What is the best DD Coil? Icon_eek . I don't remember ever using it in mono mode, I wish I did. Found plenty of small lead balls as well, it drove me nuts!
