BASALTIC AREA
HELLO GUYS
MY AREA IS VOLCANIC AREA, FULL OF BASALTIC ROCKS.
I RECENTLY BOUGHT THE MINELAB GPX 5000, THE ISSUE IS IT WAS PEEPING ON ALMOST 80% OF THE ROCKS.
IN OUR AREA WE NEED A DETECTOR THAT CAN DETECT COINS IN DEPTH UP TO 15 FEET, I AM THINKING OF BUYING OKM EXP 5000. WHAT DO YOU ADVISE?
THE 15 FEET DEPTH NEEDED BECAUSE MOST OF THE ROMAN TREASURES ARE HIDDEN ON THAT DEPTH
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

basaltic area
G'day Bassam,
Quite often a basalt horizon (relatively new)covers a sedimentary horizon and so is usually on top of a ridge. Can I suggest that you try looking for the edge of the basalt layer where the sedimentary layer (relatively older) is showing through (gullies, slopes, along old river beds). Might be worth a shot Massam. The sedimentary layer should be less mineralised. If you recognise that the parent material is fine grained granite, you might have to go back up the slope a bit.
Good luck, Jon.

Re: BASALTIC AREA
Hi Folks , Hi Basam, 15 Ft is 4.5 mts right?, and your digging in basalt to that depth?, how would you do that and how big would the hole be?, I would love to see some pictures of that sort of thing if you do get an OKM or whatever will go to that depth, please keep us posted.

Re: BASALTIC AREA
Hey Mungoman,
i really appreciate your quick reply, and no worries bro, thx anyway.
Hey Digginerup
actually all roman treasures are burried in that 4-5m in our area, the good thing - also bad for some detectors- that we dont really need to dig that much, its just picking and moving rocks. difficult yes, but with some help it saves times.
the issue is that i paid $6000 for minelab GPX 5000 and it kept giving signal on rocks, almost all. i need an advise on what detector can avoid these rocks.
our area is really full of roman and otoman burried treasures, and a good detector could make me buy MICROSOFT one day, heheheh

If you paid 6grand for a gpx and was a little disappointed that it didn't work to your satisfaction, how would you feel if you paid 20 grand+ and still had the same problem. What coils did you try on the gpx, if you can find a detector that could find a coin at 15 feet you are doing well.

Re: BASALTIC AREA
Have a look at this link http://www.garrett.com/hobbysite/hbby_searchcoil_tech_sheet.aspx It seem that you are looking for large, deeply buried objects such as relics and caches. Read up on two box coils in the link.

Re: BASALTIC AREA
Hi Bassam
To find coins at 15ft you will have to remove a little overburden, say 14ft and then detect very carefully. However if the coins are silver or gold and they are the size of dinner plates you should get them at about 4ft.Good luck.
