Gold suckeer pumps and hand dredges
Hi all,
Sorry fellas,
I have been rather busy with other things so I have not been around for a long time.
If you want to build my "gold sucker" you will find the plans on
http://lake-bolac-caravanpark.com.au
and click on gold detecting.
It's all there, inc. a flash movie of how it works.
Best regards
Frank

30 mm Steel Ball
Frank,
Thanks for the link.
One question I have is where do you obtain the 30 mm Steel Ball?
Alternatively is there a recommended alternative?
Everything else I've been able to source locally.

hand dredge
A little bit of continuation on hand operated pumps .
I made this about 17 years ago and works good .
Made from an old fire extinguisher ( large screw top type ) and hand operated bilge pump .
Drilled 25mm hole through lid then bronzed 25mm gal pipe to extend past inlet side of hand pump so as no gravel gets in and damages bellows .
Bronzed a 25mm 90 degree elbow onto side of extinguisher .
Made mounting bracket for pump and connected it all up .
I use 25 mm clear plastic tube which is easy to squash the end so as to get down into crevices , also made an adaptor for end of pipe and fit a smaller diameter piece of plastic tube to get into even smaller crevices’s
I learnt the hard , way always put a hose on outlet side or you WILL get wet !

Re: Gold suckeer pumps and hand dredges
This hand dredge looks really cool ... and I think it is something that I would be able to handle building ... but the PDF seems to have disappeared from the page/site.
Do you think it would be possible for the PDF to be reposted please?

Re: Gold suckeer pumps and hand dredges
Hi Steve. We met last year at the Waaneyarra campsite where you kindly showed me your gold sucker. I hope you don't mind me copying your design as i have recently made my own sucker. In design mine is similar to your except i made mine from 100mm poly pipe with a screw cap on one end. Have only had one quick test with it up at misery ck so far but it worked a treat. Thanks Steve for the brilliant design of the Gold Sucker. If we meet again somewhere i owe your a few beers. A MERRY CHRISTMAS to you, your family and friends. Cheers Grumpy. (Doug).
