Tricky...fantastic!!
If at all possible, would you be able to do a run down on how and what tools etc.. I know myself and no doubt many others here would love to know what's involved.

Cheers,

Steve

i used a 6 inch cabbing saw with a 12 thou diamond blade water cooled and cut free hand. i cut the small piece off the main rock . to go any further i need to go to an 8 or 10 inch saw with vice and power feed or give it the hf treatment.

thanks...but that 'whoosh' sound you just heard was what you said flying over my head.. Very Happy but I'll do some serious googling of what you mentioned.

Cheers!

G'Day

Before Gympie Gold Mine went bum up, a large amount of their quartz production was sold to the jewellery trade.

They got heaps more for it than for the Gold they produced. Looked pretty good.

If the cutter is only 12 thou thick then you aren't losing that muck gold. Did you weigh before and after??

It looks good to me, and will be even better with a bit of polishing.

slabbing a speccie Empty Go at it Tricky

Yep, go at it Tricky should look real funky polished & made into a pendant etc.
I saw some biggish Winter coat buttons in a Ginza shop in Tokyo made up from gold specimens like you cut there , buttons were about the size of 10c piece but rounded and thick & the " Gold ' looked as spectacular as the $price of the leather coat, only four buttons.

slabbing a speccie Empty Cabochons

Gday tricky
Some time ago I was looking at one of the american detecting sites and a guy there did exactly as you have done and made a ring out of the resulting "cabochon" - like this. http://www.gemsociety.org/info/lap23.htm
Looked wicked when he'd finished.
cheers
