Gday all,
Went out for a swing on the weekend and had Major dramas with EMI. Arrived after lunch on Sat at some diggings that we have done well at before. The sun was out and it was fairly steamy. Pretty much straight away my detector wasnt happy, and was near unusable. My mates were having the same problems. There is a phone tower about 2kms away, but it was never a problem before. Maybe they have up-graded the tower?
I tried auto tuning my 4000 about 5 times, but the main interferance was coming from the sky. I held my coil straight up and found the problem. My mates machines were going off their heads as well and they have an Extreme and a 3000.The only thing I didnt do was chuck it into CANCEL and crank the Gain up to the max.
Gave up after about 2 hrs for a few quiet beers back at camp.
Sunday was a different story. We changed location to about 4 kms from the tower, and met up with Hoffs Gold at some reef workings. All our machines were running sweet, and mine was purring like a kitten.
It wasnt until after lunch that the sun came out and not long after my detector was giving me grief again Rolling Eyes
Dug about 120 bits of junk before things turned to crap, but went home with our tail between our legs with no gold between the 4 of us.
Its the first time that I have ever had this kind of drama and its a very humbling and frustrating experience.
It was great just to be out there with good company in the bush,no matter the result.

I had a similar problem earlier this year with my 5000 around March. I think it came down to bad EMI as well.
On days like these it's always great to have good company. sunny

I did notice a couple largish CME's (cosmic mass ejections) the past couple of days when comet Lovejoy shot around the sun at a distance of just 170,000 Ks (and survived) but I doubt that their effects would be noticable here over the weekend.
It amazes me how something so small (a couple of hundred mtr) could survive a trip around the sun at just approx one tenth of the diameter of the sun from the surface and cover a distance of 3 million ks or so in that time affraid pale

Yes Cancel works but it is the worst, depth-sensitivity loss, solution to the problem. I wonder what has the most depth and sensitivity on gold while at the same time handling a very bad E.M.I. situation? A Coiltek Anti Interference(AI) coil "OR" a Nugget Finder XP coil in Mono Mode, does anyone know please??

i love it gus, i would even go all out and paint the football size lumps with gold paint , then when im finished bury them so you can only see a bit protruding for the next detectorist Very Happy as it wouldnt give a signal and just for a second they may scratch there head scratch , and have a think that the person that done this must have had a slow day also, and hope they see the funny side with the smily face drawn on it Very Happy lol!

C'mon lbg dreamer,
You being a Painter why not just paint the quartz stone with a lead based paint with gold and that sure would give a good signal Cool
The quiet days sure do make you think and do some funny things.

Uncle Bob.

Spot on Gus the company was great and thanks again for the invite mate,
As you know my 5K run quiet as a mouse on Sunday but yesterday it was hard going very noisy guessing it was due to the rain we had the night before?
Hahaha you've given away all your little tricks now mate could have had a right old time with my impressible prospecting mind lol!

Cheers Hoff,

Laughing The best thing to do is find a bit or Quartz that has a few faults or hollows and hammer in a piece of lead before you paint it so it gives a signal Razz

I havent used up all my tricks yet Hoffs Wink Once you get your first bit lookout for a piece of foil or lead shot taped to the base of your coil tongue
Or I may just short sheet your swag or stash a lizzard or two in there and zip it up tight. Piss funny at bedtime. Dont worry,I will catch it all on video to share on the forum Cool
