My best chunk yet
Gday Dedicated Detectorists,
I was lucky a few months back to score this clunker in some deep ground on some diggings in the NSW central western goldfields. I had got a 9 grammer,a pair of 7 grammers and a 5.8 plus heaps of little ones around this location so I knew there had to be bigger stuff around.
A 38.7 and his little 7.3 grammer brother found about 20 mtrs and an hr apart.

Well done Gus, they are both beauties. What solution do you use to get them that shiny?

Re: My best chunk yet
Thanks everyone,It blew me away as well. I had a feeling it was going to be a nice nugget as the ground was that rock hard,grey/white pipe clay and I had just hit a layer of wash about 15 inches down. Even though I was being really carefull,I still just nicked it with the tip of the pick
The look on my mates face was priceless when i slapped it into his hand. Together we had got quite a few bits up to 21 grms, but nothing like that bit.
Here are some of the other bits I got with-in a 50 mtr radius of the big bit.Turned out to be a healthy patch.

Hey G C, The gold in this paddock is very bright so they dont need much more than a quick scrub with soapy water. I have soaked them in diluted sulphuric acid overnight to soften the ironstone and compact clay.

Your dead right B4TT, alot of luck played its part in this find.
There is alot of deep ground in that area, and some very deep diggings,up to 20ft deep.
We got small nuggets on the mullock piles and the virgin ground, but around the deepest diggings the wash layer was out of detector range.
It was just a matter of searching the shallower virgin areas adjacent to the main diggings until I lucked upon an untouched section of wash.
Shiraz,I need a to rake about 2ft off the top to get more gold there.
It would be good to run a 5000 there with a whopping great coil on it.

Nice finds Gus, hope you find plenty more where they came from. Me I've got to wait about 4-5 months to get back out. Snow you know!

Hey Nightjar,
Will be heading out there for a 3 day trip this weekend. Will be taking the small coil just incase the bigger coil dosent produce.
Hope the weather isnt as steamy as its been in Sydney of late.
Hey Mugsy,
You should move Down Under mate, where you can detect 365 days a year if you are keen enough.
Bugger that snow....it would do my head in after 4 weeks let alone 4 months

Re: My best chunk yet
Gus, Thanks for the invite. I would love to visit your country again someday. I was able to visit and go detecting for a week in the areas surrounding Bendigo last fall, had the best time of my life and came away with about 5 grams. I do have a cousin in Vic. maybe that would be a good excuse to head that way again........
