Searching For gold Bearing Quartz Seam Trekking down a Steep Gully
Hi
I went out for a walk on the 19 Aug 2011 and wrote this story and video
This area on my property has been blocked from access due to long grass snakes floods and the hot summer here in Queensland since September 2010.
I thank National Parks for firebombing there area next door and giving me the opportunity to burn my property at the same time.
As this is in the “Prospecting Yarns” section and I am in no way professionally trained in prospecting.
It would be good if my story is read and watched in that context of entertainment purposes only and is no way a teaching aid to prospecting.
Any gold found in this story is the property of Shelby23.
Part One Intro- Started from Crystal Find on MAP and finished at Bolder Quartz Spot Part 8
The drop down in the gully was a steep118metres down to the Creek Bed (noted on map).
A Chinese Gold Miners Camp was set up 130 years ago 1km directly south on a compass, on the Ridge I am standing on in the Video.
The boulders of Quartz are 420 metres directly North on a compass from the Ridge I am standing on in this vidoe.
It my destination on this trek, so not far as the crow flies.
Part two
Part 3
Part 4 Found Quartz seam I was looking for.
This quartz seam is at the same height on my GPS as the Chinese gold Miners Camp directly south on a compass, on the other side of this mountain.
Although the Google Earth and GPS told me it must be there, seeing it for myself and videoing it was the goal of this trek.
Part 5
Part 6 Creek at bottom of gully.
I feel the bedrock would be where the gold has settled at the outlet of the gully where I am sitting in this video.
My Dad suggested a sluice for this job.
Part 7 Pig Encounter at Creek at bottom of gully there was also 4 young black pigs in the back ground.
Part 8 Boulders of Quartz Location.
I detected this area in 2005 with a Eureka Gold Detector.
I will give the area a go now with my GPX4500.

I found a pig the other day, it must have been caught up in all the rain recently and got caught up in a drain, man it stank.

Part 2 Other Side of Steep Mountain- Searching For gold Bearing Quartz Seam Trekking down a Steep Gully
Hi
Last time in Part One I started on the top of the mountain and went North down the Gully.
This time I trekked down the South side of the mountain looking for the Gold bearing Quartz Seam at 120 metres above Sea level again.
After a steep slippery walk down the mountain I found where the Gold Bearing Quartz Seam emerged out of the mountain again ant the same hight as the other side of the mountain.
I was very excited to find this spot.
As it is a very remote place in a large gorge that runs out the back of my property I will have to plan a trip out to the spot to detect the area.
After this seconded walk I have confirmed that this quartz seam runs North to South through the mountain.
As a child going out prospecting with my father in Victoria, I remember seeing a mine tunnel dug into the side of the mountain, walking into the mine you could see where the old miners had followed the quarts seam on the wall of the shaft deep into the mountain.
Regards Neale

Modern Day Prospecting Neale - well done.
It will be interesting if you pick up any indicators which will give you a new perspective of the seam

Hi from Neale in Biloela Queensland
Hi Jefgold
Thank you for the heads up on looking out of the square.
So far I have found a rock bar that runs across the creek, down stream from the Quartz find.
Regards Neale
