14DD pro or better
Hi guys and gals.
I just purchased an extreme it has an 11 inch coil, but i have read and everyone tells me , that to get the best out of it on small gold to get a 14DD pro.
So i am chasing something equal or better for this machine.
Prefer second hand to keep the cost down, or even an ebay link etc if you spot a bargain.
All the coils look the same to me, as i havent researched them enough yet.
If your in Brisbane i am happy to come over this week to pick one up for the weekend i have planned..
Special thanks to Warragul, for the fast postage, great communication, and sale of this machine to me.
I had a play with it this avo, in the front yard. Glad i dont drive on the grass its full of nails...

Re: 14DD pro or better
Use the coil that you have on the Extrreme and practise until you know what you are doing before buying more coils, that way you know how your machine and coil works.
Hope this helps.

Re: 14DD pro or better
It just hate the though of walking over small nuggets, due to not having the right gear for the job..Time spent on fuel camping, etc and my time, I woud hate to have a thought in the back of my mind that i am getting nothing because of a few extra dollars on a decent coil.
A 4500 to 5000 is out of my price range at the moment , but a coil isnt.
The reason why i am chasing one is i read an article from Jack Lange whom stated " if the ground has been over with a SD2200 with a decent coil and you go over it with an extreme , you will be dissapointed" If using a standard 11 inch coil.
maybe just a sales pitch? I am not experienced enough to know yet..
But when i am swinging i want to be as positive as i can mentally that i have got the best set up for what i can afford.

Re: 14DD pro or better
Just use the 11" coil and run the machine in sensitive if you are hunting small gold. My extreme stays in sensitive and I find lots of small bits and if the ground is quiet enough I use one of the older coiltek 11" mono (terracotta colored one). Found 6 bits last Sunday with this setup in an area that I had previously flogged with a 3000 and a 4500. As suggested, get to know your machine really well with the standard gear so you know what is going on.

Re: 14DD pro or better
Maka,
most of the gold found with detectors has been found with the standard 11" coil, like [75%] of gold nuggets roughly speaking. The 11" coil does go deep on some good bits of gold. Two weeks ago I got one .4g bit that was down 9-10" inches with the 11" DD.
Too many coils are for the Fellas that have been at it for a while but for a newcomer stick with the standard coil, but you need to know how to use that GP properly before spending money on coils. Hope this clears things up for you.

Re: 14DD pro or better
My first piece of gold that I found with my extreme was with the 11'' and weighed .05 grams so you shouldn't miss much.

The main thing with owning a new detector is getting onto gold asap, and keeping this in mind and the area you are in,
you cant go wrong swinging a coiltek 10x5 mono on your extreme, you will be able to not only control this coil easily
but will be on the gold before you can be with any other coil.
The main thing to consider when using a detector whether you have used the same model or not is to get onto gold
quick as can be, and i mean gold of any size too, be it small or 0.3gram-20oz, and the best way to do this is to work
small coils first..... take a look at "stoppsy".. this bloke knows that the most gold left on any given area is 1 gram - 0.1gram and below.... so why does stoppsy run the 8" mono to such advantage ??
because he is a smart bloke, who looks at the ground he works, like any good operator and reasons "this ground is flogged"
and any gold left is the tiny gold other prospectors have missed, or their gear is not up to the task of sniffin out the gold available....
Sure we all wanna walk over that "retirement nugget" but the mentalaity of it all ends up to "how many oz's of gold"
do we walk over in search of that large DREAMER nugget, and i can tell you from my side of things that it will be for
every 1oz nugget ther is 10.000 0.5 bits waiting for you to find.....
Some blokes may say that the average nugget is bigger, but from a real gold prospectors view i can assure you that for
every 1oz bit there are more than 10.000 smaller nuggets waiting for the "smart operator" to cash in on...
So to sum it all up... 1oz of small bits" = 1oz
i just spent a week up at mt maggot =mt magnet wa, and i dug 58 smalls for just under 1oz,
still 1oz but i can guarantee you if i ran over a larger "dab" i would have pinged it, and my mate
just did some ground very close to the same area i was on and dug a 531 gram "dab" at 2ft using
a 5000/11" mono combo and it squeeled like a stuck pig....
The 10x5 mono will go deep (15-18 inches) on big gold..

Maka
further to my last post, you are better running a smaller mono "ie" 8"commander/coiltek 10x5 instead of the standard11"DD coil on the extreme, as this will flog the guts outta the 11" DD coil in any ground, and as a matter of
fact this advice goes to any of the Minelab pulse machines be it SD/GP/GPX.
