Time to shop for another bush rig
Hi all , well the time has come to start looking for another rig .... decisions , decisions ! Being a diesel mechanic by trade i like the motto of " a simple vehicle is a reliable vehicle " ( mechanically that is ) especially remote travelling with no tag a longs . The mighty 80 served me well over the years & only let me down once while in Tasmania with a broken throttle cable up around the waters of mount pedder... a simple fix with some fishing line attached to create a hand throttle to get me back to town & get a new cable... no electronically controlled throttle potentiometer in this baby.. & the main one - still here to tell the story after my accident in which the 80 series was a write off.. Anyway as much as i research vehicles i find myself going back to looking at the old reliable 80 ... time will tell .
Here are a few pics of the old girl after the accident ...( still get a bit shaky when i look at them )
Safe travelling to you all
cheers gully hunter

Re: Time to shop for another bush rig
Great to see you back with us gully hunter & looking for new wheels!
I couldn't agree more on the keep it simple aspect, I still get around in a 60 series, purely because no matter what sort of electrical problems that could occur when out in the never never's, My odds on getting the old girl running are pretty much a safe bet.
Would like to know more about the Nissan Patrol's, they must be lighter than the Cruiser, going by the fact that a patrol will always pass me going up hill. As for the electrics of the Nissan, it could be a no go?
Good luck mate and happy hunting!
Cheers~Chris.

Re: Time to shop for another bush rig
Don't they just come into their own right when you put them in four wheel drive, near unstoppable! Mine has only a 2 inch lift kit but what a difference that 2 inch's make on wild country de-tours. Awsome!

Gully Hunter, where getting of track on your topic! Money always being the key factor? In my opinion I would stick with the 80 series and do it up to the hilt.

Hi Gully Hunter,
Sure if you did a bit of work on it with a lump hammer it would look as good as new
Seriously though, you were lucky to come out of that alive by the looks of the wteckage. Good to see you are back and well again.
Take care
