Chattery coil - A simple solution
Hi Guys,
As most members know I just bought a GP Extreme. I found over the last week that the signal was very jumpy on quiet to medium soil and unbearable on highly mineralised soil (like being under a powerline!). Being a newbie to the game, I sought advice and went through all the different settings etc. I finally returned to where I purchased it and within minutes they had it sorted.
The problem was simple. The contact points on the female plug of the coil had opened from the previous owner 'wobbling' the plug out. After closling them slightly with a very small screwdriver to give a better contact, the chattering was gone. Here is a photo (this is the battery lead, but same principle) of what I mean.
I will state that I am not a technician and anyone that attempts this does so at their own risk.
That said, I thought I’d pass on the knowledge gained as a possible solution in case anyone else comes across a similar problem.
Cheers,
Nature Pete.

i know there could be many reasons for a chattery coil, but this is a fantastic 'first step' in the elimination process
Thanks for that, cheers
