18 inch MINELAB COMMANDER OR NFA ?
I am wanting an 18 inch round mono coil for the 4500 to look for deeper gold in highly mineralised soil. Narrowed it down to the Minelab Commander or the NFA. Would be very happy with a coil that doesn't give false signals on rocks or grass. Has anyone used both coils and feels that one is better than the other? Have a hipstick, so weight is not a problem. Cheers, Bowy

G'day Bowy
I'd have to agree with llanbric & fencejumper on this one.The NF 18 inch Advantage mono,is a much lighter coil to swing than the Commander 18 round and due to it being potted in resin, gives you that solid long lasting feeling affect. Both coils are pretty much on par with size and depth of targets. As for not falsing on extreme hot rocks or wet or saturated grass sections, you'll find no matter what size mono coil you use over hot ground will give you the odd false ground noise signal every now and again, more so with the SD/GP model machines than the latter GPX series.
Cheers kon61.

Went with the NFA. Tried it out yesterday in very difficult conditions. Love the way it deals with wet hi min soil and hot rocks. Unfortunately came away empty handed, although we hit some promising targets. Couldn't believe how a coil of this size will still pick up very small targets. Amazing. Falsing on rocks and extremely wet grass wasn't a big problem. Very happy with the depth as well. Thanks to the responders.

Bowy, i know you've already made your choice, but you have made the right one.
They are an extremely light coil. almost as light as the 11" commander.
I have personally seen this coil find gold as small as 0.2g. And it picked out a 0.5g target at about 8 inches.
As for false signals. you have to bump it quite hard against a tree or a rock to get one.

Must admit, im a NF & a ML man, the commander is a bulldozer when its on the front of my stick, and you cannot beet them for long grassy areas.
The NF is tiresome when working with sticks & stones and almost imposable in long grass, but they sure are nice and light.
I use the 11" ML mono or as its known now as the commander 11" mono, and its the model that came out with the 3000. It produces the same false signals like anything you buy today.
Both have a place when you look at it this way.

The old white Nugget Finders were they potted in resin for a longer lasting coil? Reason is because i'm about to buy a secondhand one.Or maybe i would be better of getting a new NFA

Bowy,
We use both the 20" NFA Mono when searching, then swap if we think we are onto a patch, to the 11" ML commander monos. Very successful combination with limited interference, false signals or hot rocks.

Nightjar - thanks - that's the direction I am heading - the 11 inch Commander mono will be the next coil I get. Maybe for Christmas!

Hi nightjar, I've just bought an NF 20" round mono for the 4500 and I'm just wondering if I could pick your brain as far as settings go for the deeper yella stuff
