GPX5000 Mono coil ahhh
Well I think Minelab may have another problem with there mono coils.
Was out detecting last week and discovered my mono coil had given up! I mean the detector had a hard time finding my pick at 6 inch's?
I set the detector back to factory pre sets, and yes the coil switch was on mono, Auto tuned then turned the RX flat out, stabilizer on 17, made no difference.
Disconnected & reconnected the coil, No difference.
Walked 2 miles uphill back to the car, fitted the double D coil "All's Good".
My 5000 has probably done less than 20 hours use.
The walk was the worst part, took the shine right of the trip!

Re: GPX5000 Mono coil ahhh
hi someday
i have not even tried the coils that came with the 5000 so i was wondering what the serial no is (just round no, no need to be exact)
so i can see if mine are in the same ballpark.
thanks and cheers

Yep the coil is a C107, which falls into the dodgee category. Thou this coil has always been erratic, some days would work a treat other days it was a pain in the you know what!
Hopefully the problem will be sorted out. Biggest pee off is the amount of ground Ive walked over, putting up with bleeps and blunders, may have to walk back over the same ground yet again.
Cheers.

May have been part of the problem! Nothing worst than getting you know what stuck in you know where?
Now I know why most forum users don't use there actual photo!
Minelab should state that in the manual "Keep the hair away from the hole".

If you knew about the coil recall, why didn't you send it back to be checked a lot sooner?

Re: GPX5000 Mono coil ahhh
Hi goldnomad, your right I should have sent it back a lot earlier.
The reason why I held on for so long was the description of the fault given by Minelab and some replies on this forum!
Because the only other detector Ive ever used, Don't laugh too much, was an old White 6db, I said don't laugh too much!
So given our weird arse summer in Vic, I was putting the problems down to soggy ground!
If I had used a similar Minelab before, then for sure I would have said this coil is cactus.
Like I stated, the worst part is the amount of ground Ive falsely detected, and I'm sure the dealer who sold me the detector had a surprised look on his face when he gave me the 10 second demo over a patch of ground out the rear of his business with a prepared target so I could identify the signal. He didn't show the right response over this brand new 5000.
Now I know why?????????????
