sampling creek walls
well off to wet my ankles tomorrow (heading off today, panning tomorrow). Found where the original creek used to run... worth taking samples from under the large rocks on top of the clay bed?
If you can picture this... original creek, layers of sand to gravel to large rocks (some very big) to clay, then the creek steps down about 6 feet to a sandy area about 30 feet wide then steps down again to what is now the current creek bed which is also layered. So wondering if sampling the original creek wall between the rocks is worth a shot and same again for the current creek wall?
any help would be great, ta
by the way, the gold in the current creek is plentiful and contains pickers (just a lot of hard work, lol)
cheers

Re: sampling creek walls
do not fossick in the banks of the creek !! any lands manager would be spittin chips if they catch you doing that!! first establish where the actual bank of the creek is and then determine is the bank you want to work is in fact a sand bar //look up the definitions on the Gov site first // this is first hand knowledge as ive had discussions in the field with rangers.

Re: sampling creek walls
oh dont worry i wasnt going to dig huge holes or collapse any bank walls, lol. Just wondered if a 'sample' was ok. I merely meant take 1 small sample like loaming 1 tray full to see what was there. But if you say no, then thats cool also.
cheers for that
as it turns out, i panned some nice gold from the creek today. Rather good gold infact. So i was pretty happy with that. Always get fine gold, sometimes some nice pickers, and today my first 1/2 gram nugget from there. So all is sweet.
thanks Murachu

Re: sampling creek walls
Mate if the creeks working that good get a sluice setup. Remember one pan is equal to one shovel. The more you can process the greater the return. Try the terraces between the boulders.Sounds good though.Good luck.
