High Banker in the field - video's and pics
Finally got out to the gold field today. Due to time restraints i only put 2 buckets (35L total) through the high banker.
Fortunately there was still a puddle of water left stuck in amongst the bedrock, so atleast i didn't have to carry water in.
included is 2 video's
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qY1VGnZ2NMg
High Banker in action
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSJwRF04Z5g
Leaving the gold field with commentary.
My my setup.
The area i was collecting my dirt.
This was all that was left in the HB after the first bucket of dirt.
Panned remains after putting the 2 buckets of dirt through the High Banker.
I got lucky as the temps weren't that hot, but due to meeting up with a mate in the afternoon, my time ran short on the gold field.
I did a quick detect over some ground that i know to be completely flogged out, but was more to see how the big 24x12 UFO coil went on highly mineralised ground.
Enjoy.

Yeah, spraybar was fitted. the HB works so much better with it installed.. it's just zip tied on for now, but it only has to sit there.

Hey reg.
Haven't tried on the opposite side of the road, if that is where u mean. The grass is way too long there. It's bad enough where i was. Haven't run into any ticks. althrough i wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt.
Like everywhere, i'm waiting for a good fire to rip through this place before i attack it... me an 100 other people i think.

Choppa. Not sure about quantity for 2 buckets worth, but the gold is like flower.
wahoo. as far as i am aware you are allowed a HB in QLD.. like other states, your just not allowed to have a dredge.

Re: High Banker in the field - video's and pics
i thought you couldn't use a pump to remove dirt out of a stream bed. i am unsure of any laws that say you can't pump water.
if you go into the Qld G'ment www and search for fossicking, all the rules and regs are there.

Hi Goldbait. I am in the process of thinking of puting a electric pump on my small high banker. Does it produce enought water. also would it go long on a motor cycle battrey do you think.

Re: High Banker in the field - video's and pics
In my experience 12v pumps should be left as bilge pumps thats what they do well !!In my opinion they neither have enough flow rate or pressure you would be better off with a small 4 stroke pump --it dosent have to be a fire fighter --a transfer pump is sufficient --i use a Chonda (Chinese Honda ) 1 1/2" I hope this helps

Thanks Murachu I will do that then. Done panning and detecting but only just starting off in sluiceing. Not after hot tips or anything was just wondering about the pump.

My pleasure and always remember "the only silly question is the one not asked" Oh I bought mine off flea bay!! $140 to the door !! that was a while ago -- a lot of people turn their noses up at a Chonda but like ALL motors/pumps you do have to service them !! and the first thing you do is put a GOOD BRAND spark plug in them

Re: High Banker in the field - video's and pics
A similar sluice to the 'prospectors choice' but needs to be highly modified to suit most Aussie alluvial conditions.
(NOTE: THE OLD INLET HOLE HAS BEEN BLOCKED OFF.) A Ranger once took dislike to this sluice as it may be set up as a dredge unit? Wonder whom 'dobbed' me in for that?
Not a bad days work 1.7gms.

Jamie if you convert over to spray bars block off the inlet. Just takes doubt out of the question. When a Ranger is 'sent' to a creek to check you out ,You learn ,the Ranger learns also.

Re: High Banker in the field - video's and pics
What sort of people send the ranger. Anyway i don't plan doing anything ilegall. must be some nasty people on this forum.
QUESTION. Do people use this foru to study people to book? very unhuman and invasive.

Yep that is true indeed, The unit been fixed in a one position unable to follow the nozzle makes using a Highbanker as a dredge a very poor choice. They look good in photos but work poor out in the field. On a two inch nozzle you can move more wash faster with a shovel than what you can with the 2 inch nozzle. Just my thoughts. cheers

IT seems very strange that it is always the same people here that blame other forums for getting caught out

Re: High Banker in the field - video's and pics
Sluicer mate all I was pointing out is how awkward a Highbanker would be to use as a dredge, a bit of a wast of time over all. cheers

RiverSluicer wrote:Murachu wrote:Just make sure it cant be converted to a dredge and you should be ok
It does not matter if it can be converted. As long as you are not using it as one you are fine.
Nearly all the highbankers on the market can have a dredge attachment fitted as could any of the Banjos we see pictures of here.
It is just a matter of a Baffle box and hose fitted sat on top of the top Grizzly hopper.
RiverSluicer the problem with leaving the high banker as a dredge arose up Eldorado way because a guy was using 3 sluices across the creek and it looked as if the guy and his mate was just shovelling into them but the middle one was set up as a venturi dredge with the suction pipe made from PVC ,so easy to drop into the sand if anyone came along , the ranger saw the mess these guys left and was not impressed so he ,being the lands manager on the day ,said "I want to see all those dredge inlets in the high bankers blocked off !!"
