Yes mate that is what I thought but that stuff is very rare and so I was swayed away from it. I can not think what else it could be tho?....It seems to be very, very, very weakly attracted to a very strong magnet.

The black spots visible on charoite are most likely Aegirine.
Aegirine (chemical composition NaFeSi2O6) in which iron is known to be present in the form of Fe3+ mixed in with charoite, hence its very weak magnetic properties.
Less the stone is synthetically or laboratory made?
BTW, the stones setting, wouldn't have the presence of any iron in it, would it?

Setting is stamped and tests as 925 sil although the metal back of the setting is more attracted to the magnet than the cab side?? Might be dodgy silver?
