Why we must get everybody vaccinated
This is what we could a face here unless we get everybody vaccinated and continue some other measures suggested in the Doherty modelling

ATAGI recommends children aged 12 to 15 be included in COVID vaccine rolloutdavsgold wrote:https://www.bmj.com/content/374/bmj.n2180/rr-4?fbclid=IwAR3P01X0aehydq_fOIC6ysNF9FibP3skWJNIJTtT8KmNqE1m3p41sgcXDGA
The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) provided advice to the federal government that states the Pfizer vaccine is safe and effective for that age group.
The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) provided advice to the federal government that states the Pfizer vaccine is safe and effective for that age group.
In a statement, ATAGI said it recommended 12- to 15-year-olds be added to Australia's COVID-19 vaccination program over time, with the benefits of vaccination far outweighing the potential risks.
Those risks for mRNA vaccines include myocarditis, which is inflammation of the heart muscle, and pericarditis, which is when the outer lining of the heart becomes inflamed.
Vaccination still does benefit children by preventing COVID-19 and its complications, and in lowering the risk of school disruption, although their contribution to community transmission is thought to be less than in adults," the statement said.
High priority: why we must vaccinate children aged 12 and over now
Children and transmission
A key concept you might have heard about is the reproduction number — the number of new cases per infectious case. For the Delta strain, this number could be as high as nine. In other words, if there were no lockdowns or other controls in place, each Delta infection could theoretically lead to as many as nine new infections.
The “effective reproduction number” is how many new cases you get per infectious case after public health measures such as lockdowns have been applied.
The Doherty modelling used a baseline effective reproduction number of 3.6 but acknowledges the effective reproduction number will be different from state to state. It can also change over time.
The effective reproduction numbers in NSW and Victoria are currently under two — but this figure could rise when lockdowns lift.
Modelling by colleagues and I shows that once the value of the effective reproduction number creeps up above four, all else being equal, children including those younger than 16 start to feature highly in transmission.
In other words, we need to vaccinate children aged 12 and above now, in preparation for a scenario when the effective reproduction number is much higher than it has been under lockdowns.
What are the consequences of not vaccinating younger children?
The risks of not vaccinating children in the 12+ age group include:
more children becoming sick with COVID
denying children potential freedoms that may come with vaccination, such as returning to school, travel or avoiding strict lockdowns
not vaccinating children means living with the knowledge we haven’t done everything possible to ensure they don’t transmit COVID to more vulnerable people.
It’s unlikely Australia will achieve herd immunity to COVID this year.
But even without herd immunity, every little bit helps — and the growing number of cases in younger children suggests we need to vaccinate this group sooner, rather than later.

Under-12s are increasingly catching COVID-19. How sick are they getting and when will we be able to vaccinate them?
So what are the benefits of vaccinating kids?
While the Delta variant is more infectious than other strains of the coronavirus, and more kids are becoming infected, there’s not a scientific consensus at this stage that it’s causing more severe disease in children.
That said, a small minority will get sicker than others and need hospital care.
If vaccines are found to be safe and effective for younger children there would be benefit in protecting the individual child.
What about collective benefits? Will vaccinating young children reduce transmission in the community and improve our herd protection?
Recent modelling from the Doherty Institute doesn’t appear to consider whether vaccinating children under 12 would or wouldn’t contribute to reducing community transmission.
Other modelling has suggested vaccinating younger children and adolescents will be important if Australia is to reach the elusive “herd immunity”.

Re: Why we must get everybody vaccinated
once again, there are "experts" for both, get jabbed and not to get jabbed, especially saying young children not get the jab
You put up as many "experts" opinions as you wish, there are just as many "experts" opinions recommending caution.
Natural immunity is just as effective as the jab anyway, and for some reason there is about 7.5 billion people on this planet and for thousands of years have survived various virus and plagues and diseases and not until recent times have there been vaccinations against most of the previous things.
In time the jab will either work or it won't for Covid renamed cold/flu.
Look up how well Israel and Iceland and Gibraltar are going with veyr high jab rates, there are more of the jabbed catching covid and transmitting covid to there fellow jabbed than ever, go figure
Does Australia learn anything from this, no we must do the same thing here that is not working like they thought it would over there so we keep doing the same thing here, just follow the money trail and you will see why.

"Natural immunity is just as effective as the jab anyway"
Natural immunity does not work against covid delta variant as over 10 million covid deaths shows!Over 90% of the patients in ICU in Australia are unvaccinated or have only had one shot!
"Look up how well Israel and Iceland and Gibraltar are going with very high jab rates, there are more of the jabbed catching covid and transmitting covid to there fellow jabbed than ever, go figure"
Yes the vaccines are not 100 % efficacious but they reduce transmission by up to 50% and more importantly dramatically reduce serious disease, hospitalization in ICU and deaths!!!
The money trail has got nothing to do with it! What we are doing in Australia is based on the very best health advice and on oversea experiences and data from peer relieved medical and scientific journals.
If you don't believe in vaccination or lock downs then tell us how you would manage the pandemic and at the same time prevent our hospital systems being overwhelmed.

Right fellas time to give COVID talk a rest. There’s more than enough info on YouTube or the news going on, we don’t need it drawn out to the point of no return here.
