Equinox 600 At The Beach ???
Has anybody out there used the 600 over salt water beaches. Is it a leap forward over the Safari or 3030.??

Re: Equinox 600 At The Beach ???
Adrian,
I use the 800 so cant comment on the 600 with regard to settings. The 800 is a step above the Safari particularly in the wet sand. The 600 uses the same technology as the 800 but, and don't quote me here, the 600 doesn't have the preset for gold or'supplied with the bluetooth headset.
Given its using the same tech as the 800 without the 2 higher frequencies of 20 & 40khz, theoretically it is as good as the 800 on the beach without the access to all the configurations of the 800.
People are using the 600 quite successfully on the beach.
I assume you've read the Minelab comparison here https://www.minelab.com/community/treasure-talk/equinox-600-vs-equinox-800

Re: Equinox 600 At The Beach ???
Thanks for that info.
Although I have several vlf detectors none of them are all that flash on small gold chain and other small gold jewellery Items.
So I want to weed them out and try to find a multi frequency machine that is excellent at the beach and can hit on these small jewellery items.
I have found a ton of stuff over the years and have plenty of gold and sil rings but the chain department is lacking.
Most of the detectors that I have that can ping small gold chain etc are high end vlfs that do not work well at the salt beaches so I have been thinking of replacing a few of them with a 600 or 800. The 800 is out of my price range so i need to know that the 600 is up to the task?

Re: Equinox 600 At The Beach ???
I have found a couple of chains, they have been shallow and difficult to hear. I think I was possibly pinging the clasp.
Going by the test you posted earlier, you are probably better to use the SDC if you're mainly chasing chains and are prepared to dig lots of junk targets.
Would like to read a comparison of the Gold bug and the SDC when detecting at the beach for gold chain.

Re: Equinox 600 At The Beach ???
I have not done a direct comp at the beach between those two detectors but in my back yard the GB kills the 2300 on small gold chain.
I now use the GB DP at the beach in pref to my infinium but use the finny out in the deeper water.
About all I can say at the moment is that The GB has detected aussie 20 cent pieces at between 15 and possibly 18 inches in damp beach sand.
The ground balance was maxed out in the water but the tecta was running quite well with a now and again false sig.......This is in All Metal mode only. The disc mode is not good in the water or over wet sand.

Re: Equinox 600 At The Beach ???
Some VLF detectors have no trouble detecting a small gold chain that is until you set the GB to wet salt sand use such as 00.
Your TDI with certain coils have no such trouble.

Re: Equinox 600 At The Beach ???
Hi Ivanll.
I have only tested with the stock single field coil. I do have several other GPX coils here from 6 inch to monster elliptical that I will try out...If I can find where I buried them in the shed.......Do you have a particular recommendation?

My preference is a 10x5"DD on the TDI/SPP and 12" dual field on the TDI Beach Hunter.

Re: Equinox 600 At The Beach ???
Have just tried my gpx 5 x 10 coiltek mono and the result was poor being only very very marginally better than the stock TDI mono on a small gold chain. Detected the clasp weakly but not the chain. Tried various settings of threshold, gain, gb and timings.
The 7 x 3 on the finni works and detects this chain but is nothing flash and as you say, a very slow careful sweep is required.
My GB DP Pro nails this chain through the flagstone paver with coil approx 6 inches above the paver.
Chain is 18k. wt is 3.0g

Re: Equinox 600 At The Beach ???
Tried the ML 11 inch Commander mono and it performs very well on the TDI. More stable and slightly better sensitivity than the stock coil to the previously mentioned gold chain.
Like it and will leave it on for a while.

Re: Equinox 600 At The Beach ???
Picked up a EQ 600 SH for a fair price. Be interesting to see if it is better than my GB DP at the beach.
I understand that software upgrades are available for the 600. How do I access those?

Be a few days yet before I get this detector. It will be interesting to compare it to a few others that I have.

Re: Equinox 600 At The Beach ???
600 arrived this morn.
Some quick testing shows it as an ok machine. Noise cancel works very well and sensitivity is ok.
It is not screaming fantastic at me but is pretty good. See how we go when I get a chance to take it into the field and to the beach. Weather is crap at the moment.
Has many of the features found on early Whites coin, relic and jewellery machines.
Detectors like the Eagle II, DFX, Eagle Spectrum, Spectrum XLT, V3. & a couple of others that I have forgotten. Some of those early Whites machines required a mind like Stephen Hawkins to be able to operate them. So many adjustable features and multi function buttons.

Re: Equinox 600 At The Beach ???
Well the 600 did not last long and is now on its way to ML for repairs.
Back lighting failed and the machine breaks into a melodic series of sounds now and again.
