What are the odds?
Went out this arvo to a spot that is riddled with iron stone/hot rock every swing is just about a screamer.
This is where fate comes into it,got out of the car, rigged up switched on the 5000,I took literally 5 paces, when the 5000 settled down I balanced it and got a signal ,low and behold a half grammer.
First time in my life I've pinged something so quick,WHAT ARE THE ODDS? Any mathematician out there.
For the next two hours I dug screaming magnetic iron stone/ hot rock,no other gold,oh well keeps me fit and active

Re: What are the odds?
Well I guess when you consider the size of Australia, the size of yourself, the coil and the likleyhood of going to that particular spot and all of the factors involved like what you did that day the places you went and the time it took to eat yer breakfast, then yeah I would say long Odds....Just change any one of those factors and that nugg would still be in the ground aye!?

Hi Adrian
A few years ago found a hammered silver coin on the first swing when I walked into the field , and thought pretty much as you did , never had that luck again .

Moredeep all I can say is "That Nugget definitely had your name on it mate" We done. That has happened to me but not in that amount of time. And I think we're on to it and spend the rest of the day walking around still looking for it. That's prospecting for you.

I guess you are in England mate. No hammered coins over here....Lots of well and truly Hammered gold fields but Naah, no hammered silvers.
That little spot you have over there is the best country for metal detectorists

Re: What are the odds?
Another pure chance find, how does this happen?
Almost identical story to Moredeep except WA goldfields and using GPZ.
Bush bashed until further progress was stopped by a wooded dry creek, we thought well this looks alright, we'll give it an hour.
Rigged up walked a few metres out of range of vehicle, fired up GPZ, took one step and got a screamer in leaf litter. Obvious thought it was rubbish.
A couple of scrapes and out popped a 2 grammer.
2 hours later with both the ZED & a SDC not another speck???

Re: What are the odds?
I wouldn't say its luck moredeep, for through research/past experience, you were in the right place for gold to be there within reach of a metal detector. Where luck comes into play, is on the size or quantity of your find/s. Then on the other hand, one can also say, its only coincidence, (being there, at the right time, right place, luck) or synchronicity (a far greater intelligence at work, beyond our comprehension). Both can work with you, or against you & we've all experienced some form of that in our life time.
To cut a long story short, nice going, well done.
Cheers Kon.
