Tibooburra - Gumvale Station
I recently completed one of those bucket list trips to Cameron Corner. I camped at The Granites Caravan Park in Tibooburra and drove out to the Corner.
While in Tibooburra, I paid $10 per day (per person) to detect on Gumvale Station for 2 days. This can include camping out there if you want to but there are no facilities. The station turnoff is 14 km west of Tibooburra, on the road to Cameron Corner.
To pay, you go to to the two story Tibooburra Hotel as it is also owned by the Hotchin’s who also own the station. Staff are trained to give you a map and receipt.
The geology, where I tried to detect, was extensive shale ridges with quartz leaders running through. There are some deep mines on the property but long abandoned. I only had 3 days to detect and, for me, I just couldn’t get a “feel” for the place and gave up after 1.5 days to try the Town Common. Temperatures were creeping up for this time of the year too.
Granite 2 (Jim) - I did look for your book at TJ’s Roadhouse but couldn’t get a copy. Not there or sold out.

Re: Tibooburra - Gumvale Station
Annie, yes nice pictures. Tibooburra is a great little spot. It would be starting to warm up there now. We have been there a couple times and have enjoyed it each time. Like you we also went out to camerons corner for a day, i think we expected more than we saw. Scenery not much different to the whole area in general. When we were last up there the wild life was severely suffering and just dropping dead in front of our eyes. Sorry to see you were not rewarded with any gold. Prehaps next time. TG
