Kicked of public land by Ballarat city council
Ok so I just got kicked off public land again for coin hunting. All my holes are back filled and compacted so it’s level. Council guy was nice enough. Asked if I knew the rules for prospecting. I said yes. He said Ballarat city council doesn’t allow any metal detecting with in Ballarat , he said it’s on the council website. I tried searching for anything but couldn’t find anything. Anyway, I just apologised and moved on. He pulled the same reasoning saying “the ground is squishy and people could trip over it and sue the council”. And yet we see cracked curbs with unevan turf for everyone to trip over. What a great time we live in. Common sense is uncomm sense now.
These days all you gotta do is fart to loud and you will get sued .
That’s all for now. Peace

Gday always check for local bylaws. They sometimes give out permits.

Have just sent an email to the Ballarat City Council in regards to this.

Re: Kicked of public land by Ballarat city council
Reply from the council was prompt professional and polite.
There was no mention of aNY LOCAL BY-LAWS banning metal detecting on public and crown land in the Ballarat region.
I was redirected to DELWP ( dept of Environment, Land, Water And planning) and am waiting for an email response in regards to prospecting and metal detecting in the ballarat region.
It would seem to me that somebody bluffed you cabletie

Not all 'swinging' has to relate to Fossicking or Prospecting
Remember, when searching for coins etc that if challenged you are looking for a Family Heirloom that was lost recently whilst extended family were engaged in a Family Reunion. IT could be a Bracelet, Necklace, Ring etc. Remember, your are not Prospecting or Fossicking. You are in fact searching for Lost Property. Good luck.

Yeah that is one of my fav replies when some nose parker asks what I am looking for. (My wife lost an earring or wedding ring or watch). Then if they ask if I ever find much other stuff I say; "Naah bugger all, these detectors do not work all that well".
