Tararan Gold Prospect Or Workings Part 2
Dear Members,
Got back from Gingin last week. I have taken heaps of photos & you may decide if the area could have been worked for gold. After about an hour & a half detecting apart from a small tin lid which had 4 notches on it ? plus a small piece of triangular iron stone about 2 cms wide, it looked & felt like a nugget, sorry no photos of them. I will try in the future after I have acquired myself a newer modern coil, the ones I used are the old browny coiltek ones over 12 years old plus the original 11" minelab DD. I'd like to quote the article from Gold & Ghosts( if I'm not breaking any laws) which is interesting & might give you a better idea of the area.
" In December 1933 Messrs Whetter and Hunter reported the discovery of Gold at Tararan Holdings 29 ks n/w of Gingin, the gold was discovered by washing the alluvium
in the surrounding gullies. The gold occurs in thin veins or partings in biotite schists only 40 m away from a granite contact. Four such veins were found.
The leaders were only very small and sometimes the gold occurred without a gangue. It was reported that it was of little commercial value, due to its size, But there was a possibility of isolated patches of very rich gold, it appears that no stone was crushed from here, but the prospectors did win over 10 ozs of gold from rich surface specimens.
The area may yield more to the metal detector operator "
The area I took these photos was probably no bigger than 3-4 acres. I think I will post this topic firstly & then try to download the photos so I don't loses the article- see you shortly!
