17inch NFelliptical or 18inch NF round?
Gday all, Im planning to order a new NF coil soon but Im still trying to decide between the 17inch elliptical or the 18inch round. Ive heard and seen great things regarding both coils so your thoughts on this would be great too. Cheers. Evan2010

Re: 17inch NFelliptical or 18inch NF round?
G'day Evan.
Two different coils all together(Yin&Yang). Both these latter made coils by Nugget finder work brilliantly
on the GPX series. If you intend on working mostly hill runoffs, gutters, gullies or creeks, with the odd bit
of flat thrown in,you cant go past the 17x11,especially when it comes to pinpointing targets.
If ground coverage is your main concern, with superior depth to that of the 17x11 whilst maintaining good
sensitivity to the smaller nuggets, you cant go past the 18 round.
By the way,the 17x11 is more sensitive to tiny nuggets at greater depth than the 18 round.
Personally Evan i carry both in my arsenal.
Cheers kon61.

Re: 17inch NFelliptical or 18inch NF round?
A little write up taken from one of JP's post some time back when I asked about the elliptical vs round.
This year the coil that really hit the mark for me in the highly mineralised shallow areas of WA was a 17" elliptical Mono, the ellipticals really do hit the nail on the head for outright sensitivity on small gold thanks to the narrow design but with excellent coverage thanks to the tip to toe dimensions. Because the winding is actually quite small there are more wraps to achieve the right resistance hence better sensitivity (similar to smaller coils)
I have the early white NF 17x11 spoked model, and has found me a lot of gold from big to small, on both 4000 and 4500. A must have coil size in my books.

re nf17" and 18"
my mate mal uses the white nf 17" elliptical and I am very impressed with how it runs!! Are the new model coils as good as the old ones?

Re: 17inch NFelliptical or 18inch NF round?
G'day Evan.
I,me going to stick my neck out here, and hope that i don't have to retract it just as fast by saying,
the current dark grey 17x11 nugget finders are slightly better than the first earlier ones which hit the
market. since ive owned and compared both coils with the 4500,ive found the latter current line, slightly
more quieter and slightly more sensitive around its edges. Now people, dont get stuck into me for all the
wrong or right reasons, this is my view and my view only. Why i say this?,A few weeks back i went to a
small heavily mineralized patch, around the Castlemain district, which produced several sub gramers in
the past and managed to snag two nuggies one being a 0.1gm at three inches depth, the other a 0.2
at 5 inches.Same settings similar conditions. Now i know i flogged the arse end out of this small section
of ground with my previous early model 17x11and did not pick them up.
Cheers kon61.

re nf 17" or nf 18"
Thanks again kon61 and narrawa for your informative replies. One of the main reasons Im planning on buying the nf coils is the extra depth it seems to achieve on nuggets of all sizes. Im using the 14x9" goldstalker and while its a great coil and very sensitive It couldnt seem to pick up the smaller bits that are a bit deeper whilst my mate mal was using pretty much the same settings on his 4500 but using the nf 17" and quite often digging up sml bits at depth.

So in other words the NF 17" EM seemed to outperform the CT 14" EM on smaller bits at depth you are saying. You may want to try either one of the 3 new NF Advantage coils => 17" EM, 14" EM(14x9"), 14" EMS(solid 14x7"), or 12" RM(round Mono).

Re: 17inch NFelliptical or 18inch NF round?
HI there,
I haven't used the 17", but after asking on this forum on which brand 18" mono to buy,(And getting some very good advice, thanks) I ended up buying the 18 inch NFA mono. It is a brilliant coil. Very sensitive to the small gold, and it can go very deep, even on sub gram nuggets if you get it running nice and quiet. I don't really think you can go wrong with the 18", unless you want something that is better in rougher areas (uneven ground and bushes) It doesn't like EMI much either, but apart from that, I'd highly reccommend it.
Cheers

Re: 17inch NFelliptical or 18inch NF round?
i to was using the 14 x 9 till only resently, it found a lot of gold inc a 3 ouncer @ 17 in, and can go any where but it lacks coverage which i would prefer and recomend.
I now swing the new 17 x11 as my standard coil. It's found me over an ounce in the last 6 days out, inc a 27.5g. It works the same as the 14 x 9 just deeper.
I've been told that the white 17's where better but i haven't used one. I wish the new ones weren't lightened so they wouldn't catch so many sticks!!!!!!!
18 r'd is a great coil, but if your a beginner only use it to go over ground you already have found in, or it will drive you insane as an every day coil. I prefer the 24 x12 nf, as it will cover more ground and can sneak into more places then a 18rd. Still hard to use all the time.
The 18rd may go deeper but the coverage of the 24 x 12 is better in my opinion!
Good luck!
