Not to sure but I think one or both of the v2 models are going to be made obsolete.
GPX 5000
To All:
You must admit it's got everyone stirred up.......similar to when the "dry blower" was first introduced....you can feel the vibes coming through the computer screen.....all the detectorists pacing up and down the kitchen like an "expectant father" awaiting the arrival.....trying to charm wifey and convince her that the 5000 is the panacea to all their dreams whilst she just yawns watching "Days of Our Lives"............!
Where would we be without that new detector adrenalin shot ?
"THERE IS MORE GOLD IN THE MINDS OF MEN THAN HAS EVER COME OUT OF THE GROUND"
Be lucky.

Re: It's Official-The new Minelab GPX5000 is here
I see on another forum that in the USA the RRP for the GPX 5000 is 5,595.00US and the GPX 4800 is 4,995.00 US.
That when converted to AU dollars is noticably cheaper than the RRP here in Aussie.
So who is skinning who?

I think if you export stuff then those items are gst exempt, gst from the factory to the shop and then another wack at the retail shop.

The USA has a different taxing system than we do here, this is why there will be a difference, no skinning!!!

The new machines sound great and if they can find gold where the 4500 cannot then a bit of a price hike won't be a problem to the serious operators because they will get their money back in gold quick smart. Wish I could afford one.

G'day fellow prospectors.
So much money for a better metal detector, and yet still no talk of a better iron discriminating system at greater depth.
Cheers kon61.

Honestly Kon, I couldn't careless if they removed discrimination all together. I'd still did the crap...it has a habit of masking good targets.kon61 wrote:

G'day Madtuna.
To right you are tuna. When i consider the majority of my larger slugs of gold(10 grammers and above)all sounded like crap, both on the surface,as well as at depth,it certainly pays to dig all targets. I just can't help wishful thinking and maybe just maybe,in the near future,Minelab will have something more accurate in the form of discriminating iron from alloy than what they currently have.Tuna believe me when i say as i get that one step closer to 50,I'm starting to feel the pinch or pain in the old back.Digging over 50 holes for junk targets a day ain't exactly what i call fun, although knowing that if i don't dig them suss targets,I'm losing gold.
Enjoy your birthday dude.
Cheers kon61.
PS.what happened to the ostrich?.....

Re: It's Official-The new Minelab GPX5000 is here
Was discussing the new 5000 today and the fact that it will find small gold deeper was raised. I was asked if I wanted to dig 12" holes for .2 gr?
Well yes! I already dig 24" holes for a horse shoe so .2gr at half that depth will be a blessing!
