Well I asked for this category on the forum, well I better put a post in it. Most of you guys have seen this in action and yes I was a bit worried over the weekend with so many individual gold pours and totalling over 35 ounces over a 4 day period in which my gold furnace was not designed for, surpassed all my expectation, it has a little bit of wear and tear( I will show a photo soon) but the way I designed it, it  is completely serviceable.Gold Furnace 20150913

G'day Johnny

Amazing little gold melting device.

It got me inspired to make an "el cheapo" model, went to Bunnings and bought a Hebel Block 600x200x200 for $13.95, I used about 1/3rd of it for my kiln

G'day Johnny

I don't know it they can handle 2000deg Celsius, they have a good fire rating and won't burn etc, there fire rating on the Hebel site is 240 minutes for non load bearing, but I can't see at what temp the test was done. I googled and some say it will handle over 1000deg but by how much before it fails and falls apart I'm not sure yet.

Worst case I guess is they will crack and fall to pieces after a few uses.

I had the tourches going into the inside of the blocks for a little while and the inside edges started to glow red, I never had a crucible to put inside the thing yet so I didn't want to wast to much gas.

I have just ordered some graphite crucibles & moulds & SSteel tongs

cheers dave

I used this furnace today, no problems, it may not last as long as the proper fire bricks but it certainly worked well, melted 2 bars in the graphite crucible and poured into a 2 oz graphite mould.

The Hebel Block furnace never showed any sign of burning, glowed red hot, and never fell apart........yet, but as I can get 3 or 4 furnaces out of one block for $13.95 it won't matter if it don't last forever
