where would you look
there a lot off great spots i have found but this one court my eye....i'v been flat-out detecting but it's that clean you just walk and lucky to get a noise....i'm not sure it's just been flogged or it's just clean.....there are a few scratch marks not a great deal not sure from a animal or othere detectors....would you go and detect the wash way or the diggings or the hill?

Stoppsy, the area is fine. Please detect slowly and carefully digging every signal. The most likely gold to find will be very small and if your really really lucky maybe a bit bigger.Good luck mate.Patience, gold is not everywhere.

Gday Stoppsy
Patience Grasshopper, take your time, as Kingfish said, detect slowly and carefully, if there has been a significant amount of workings and activity in the area then there is also a high possibility that there is gold there still, you simply have to learn where it is.
Observation is the key, look carefully at where the workings are situated, if there are mines on the slopes of the hill then the most obvious place would be between the mines and the base of the slope and then out on to the flats, gold can travel for hundreds of metres away from its source, its all relevant to the age of the deposit and the amount of weathering it has seen over the years.
Creeks are a good place to look, any sort of wash away from the area can uncover buried pieces, also pay attention to the sides of the creek and any area where the edges have banked up, creeks can and will change course over the years so some observation of the surrounding area for other depressed areas of ground that would indicate the presence of the old creek course.
The mullock heaps around the diggings can also hold small nuggets and specimens, so very careful scanning of these might be productive, if there are trenches about that look safe to detect then have a look at these as well, keep away from open pits and shafts they are far to dangerous and can easily collapse under you weight if you get too close.
Once you have observed the area and you can usually see the type of material that was being worked, ie quartz or ironstone etc, then it may be worthwhile to detect any slopes or outcrops that appear similar and are in close proximity to the workings, they could be productive and possible undetected.
Listen for any murmur in the threshold and investigate everything until you are suer what it is, the gold could be very small or it could be very deep.
cheers

Where to look??
Hi Stoppsy
A trip to the Doc's is in order for you, sure sound's like you have GOLD FEVER there maybe no cure for you as you sound too far gone!!
Seriously, It might help if we knew your current set up detector wise, coil, booster? etc
I use an SD2200 & have just found my 4th nugget after a dry spell of 11months although time in the feild is limited.
Have confidence in your gear (saying that you need to know how to set it up)
Good luck
Lee
