Re: $500. Deposit
I would be very surprised if Minelab did not have enough units to meet all and any demand. I would imagine there are already pallets nicely boxed GPX7000's cling wrapped recently unloaded from shipping containers from Malaysia. Just good business skills involved in making your clients think they might miss out if they don't get in early

Good point. I'm sure Miners Den will drop the $500 'reservation fee' before too long.
Still, I'm not so sure it's 'good business skills'. Maybe more of a consequence of failure to upgrade the 5000 beyond 'normal' upgrade cycles. Consider the reports of ML layoffs - good business skills?
Anyway, there does seem to be lots of clamouring around in anticipation and the 'reservation fee' does help to settle the dust (as can be seen from this thread).

Taking a chance
Putting a non returnable deposit on a product unproven and not knowing the price of it sound like something from Disney Land " and we will chuck in some steak knifes to sweeten the deal ". Really would you buy a car of the drawing board that you have never seen or know how it runs and not knowing how much it costs and how it works? No wonder the scams survive. Why not call it a levy as the Government does and it does not sound like you are going to the casino to take your chance. Yes I would like one but it has to be pretty good and worth the cost to chuck the 5000 away. Lets get some results from it know the cost and how good it works and let the eager beavers do the research first not what Minelab tells us on how good it is.

Good assessment and it really is YOUR CHOICE.
Suggesting it's a scam is a bit unfair though.
Ultimately, as a consumer, if you don't like the price, deposit, whatever; take your business somewhere else.
Also, I'm not putting that forwards as a derogatory throw-away line. I think consumers should vote with their money MORE OFTEN. Businesses in AU get away with too much that, for example, in the US, they'd go bankrupt. It's no wonder Aussies are renowned downloaders and eBay thrives.

Re: $500. Deposit
I've done what a lot of other people would have done and emailed Detector distributors around Australia requesting they let me know when they receive news about the GPZ7000. Bendigo Miners Den were the only distributors requesting $500 deposit so I voiced my concern and Below was the reply. All other distributors said they will let me know when they hear something including NQ Miners Den.
Hi,
Thanks for your email, and I definitely understand your concern.
We are currently taking deposits for the machine due to customer demand, although we haven’t got all the details we have many wanting to place their deposit down, which is was we have enabled the process early.
Certainly once the machine is released and available to purchase in stores, there won’t be the need for the deposit.
Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance at all
Kind Regards,

You can simply Register for more info at MD which you're saying other distributors let you do. It's only if you are lining up for a machine that MD are requesting the $500. (Interesting that they refer to it as a 'deposit' in your email reply.)
Scroll down towards the bottom if this link and you will see the Registration:

Re: $500. Deposit
$500 deposit now appears cheap!
Just been advised that a $1000 deposit is required by a dealer in a large provincial city in Victoria.
Note, this is not hearsay.
Heading into town to pay the deposit tomorrow.
Cheers spinna

Sounds like a alleged misleading description to me, unknown purchase price, unknown release and delivery dates and as Miners Den is owned by the same company, they can't claim to have the information to hand.
What a load of chit, Minelab don't own Miners Den. Obviously they have the info, as do many others who have signed disclosure agreements.
What false and misleading claims have they made? Have you tried one of these machines? Or just making crap up?
It's not a deposit either, it says it's a reservation fee, why don't all you 'legal experts' look into the correct terminology for starters
YEp, looks like Codan who owns Minelab, sold Miners Den (Melbourne & Sydney) back in 2010. My mistake.
So there is nothing unscrupulous about the "fee" ey? No refunds buddy. No info on price. No release date.
Read the statement. I have not claimed they made "false and misleading claims" . It's a blanket statement.
As for whether I have used one? Let me get back to you after I actually read the non disclosure contract.... oh wait, that's not gunna happen.
So "no comment".

Re: $500. Deposit
I always thought that such things are backed up by a costly paragraph of fine print outlining the terms and conditions from which you forfeit your deposit.?
Iv not read the fine print.? Is there a link to it.?
