Re: Halls Creek
The only advice I can give you Greg! is take plenty of insect repellent, for the flys and ticks!
We did go that way a few years ago.. Didn't do very well.. Not from the lack of trying..
In the area we tried, all we got was tiny specks! Nothing over 2 grams.. I am not saying there isn't good
Gold up there, just didn't have our names on it if there is.
All the best if you are heading up that way and good luck.

Hi Jen ,
Thanks for the reply and heads up on the insects. Do you recall the area you detected over in a general direction. The size of the gold is not important to me .
Could i ask you if it was in the schist or was it in the sides of the hills or gullies in large quartz show.. It is a long way from Qld to go so trying to gather as much help as is possible.
Cheers
Greg

Re: Halls Creek
Greg, do you have any of the Doug stone maps/ books..
We went down the Tanami road about 30 ks.. But you have to check on tengraph, it's most
Likely all under some sort of lease..
The ground was mainly quartz and schist, with a LOT of spinifex.. Could hardly swing the detector.
We were only there for about 3 weeks, from memory, as we were headed to Qld.. To visit Son..
I meant to add its a great little town.. Beautiful country, very hilly.. I mean MOUNTAINS..
There is a tourist information centre, two small supermarkets when we were there.. Towns people were very nice..
We also went for a drive out to Wolfe creek crater.. What a bouncy drive that was.. Don't take your caravans, unless they have improved the roads since..
Sorry I couldn't have been of more help..

Re: Halls Creek
Just back from Halls after spending about 8 days detecting with a mate.
We ended up with 48 pieces (always lovely and clean bits around Halls creek) for around 1.7 oz.
Beware the spinafex this year. It is thick everywhere. Flats and creeks included (the creeks also have the longer grasses as those would know who have been there before). Barely saw any burnt ground to get even half a swing in!
All in all a fabulous week. Beautiful crisp mornings. Clear blue sky days and evenings to die for. The gold is always a bonus.

Re: Halls Creek
BG, you must have found a good spot to do that well this year in the time you had there considering conditions. When we left up there spinifex was thick as we had ever seen it. Interesting you said there is very little ground burnt as yet.
good on you for your finds. TG.

Re: Halls Creek
My mate got a little patch on a saddle that produced 22 pieces. All very shallow with the biggest piece around 4grams. Other than that it was working the creeks, gutters and anywhere where the grasses were thinner. We went wider each day looking for areas others may have missed. Ifs hard yakka but it is there if you've got time. It sure is good country.
