Hi guys, I'm pretty new to this game and I'm wondering if it's worth just wandering into any old bit of bush and waving the detector around ? Or is gold only in certain reigons ? could there be small isolated patches out there that no one has yet discovered ? Do all quartz reefs contain at least traces of gold. I live in an area with lots of granite mountains and big areas of flat farming and grazing land in between, I have access to thousands of acres but just don't know if it's worth it as there might not be a spec in all of it ??? feeling a little overwhelmed.

G'day billbo82 and welcome to the forum. As I am not sure on your part of the country, but down here in Vic our richest Goldfields are close to Granite country. If there are known Goldfields not to far from the areas that you are interested in then more than likely there would be a big possibility that Gold does exist in those areas. I would suggest you do some research on the surrounding areas and see what pops up. So good luck and hope you strike it rich.  Very Happy

Cheers. Mike.

hi mate,

welcome to the gang!

also check trove for any old articles or maps for your area, your looking for nuggets not fine flour gold (panning)

so it pays to research a bit on the area you wish to detect

trove is here
