What should I expect
Borrowed a Minelab GP3000 to have a play with (normally use a Garrett AT Gold).
It has the stock 11 inch DD coil on it.
If I have configured it all properly with this coil, as a guide, at what distance (air test) should I expect to pick up a 0.5gr piece of lead ??

Hi Hill folk
0.5g in lead would be a fairly weak target on that detector and coil combo,my guess is a few inches at best.Try switching to mono for a little extra depth

would be happy with that
Thanks Deutran,
Would be happy with a few inches but cant even get it to respond anything like that....My AT Gold pops off at 3-4 inches easy.....
Will check the voltage on the battery. Does the detector tell you when voltage is low ??

Re: What should I expect
G'day The hill folk,
The 3000 will start to beep when the battery gets low. I can't remember the exact volts when it does start to beep. It would be in the owners manual though and as Dutran said the mono coil would pick up a 1/2 gram no problems. Hope this helps.
Cheers.
Mike.

ok then
Thanks Mike......good info.....its looking like when the time comes to upgrade from the AT Gold it would make sense to get a 4500 or 5000 to be satisfied that I can shoot for small stuff as well as deep...
