Enjoyable morning in Castlemaine
I managed a few hours of Detecting on Sunday morning.
After a 1 1/2 hour drive I set up the 4500 and started swinging. Within a minute or two and the first target for the morning I dig out a 0.2g nugget - a good start . Within an hour I dug the larger nugget which weighs in at 0.8g.
A good result for a supposed flogged out Goldfield - Actually the area I detected had no detector holes old or new which is very unusual.
I think I'll go back and do a more thorough search

Re: Enjoyable morning in Castlemaine
There will be loads of locations that have been 'flogged out' with old detectors. You just had a better detector on the day than the last man who went there.
Just wait till the 5000 comes out and you can retrace all the steps you took with your 4500!!!

Detrackozi,
Na mate I don't feel bad about your haul - it looks beautiful
I just wish I had your skills with a detector and I need all the help I can get - i.e. 4500
And if you want to loan my 4500 >>>>> I will say no
Shhhhhhh lets stop talking about Castlemaine

Re: Enjoyable morning in Castlemaine
Your right no one should go to Castlemaine there is never any gold there
Can we talk about Chewton
What about Taradale it get left out all the time it has one of the best Geo grounds about and yet not a word gets said about it --some good size nuggets have come from there and yes it's just had a control burn I can hear there 4x4 starting up from here looks like a busy place this weekend.
By the way Castlemaine has a two day swap meeting on this weekend at the Football oval well worth a look

Yes Taradale - Heard some interesting things about Taradale
Castlemaine may be discounted by some but it still has lots of potential - as shown
Even Chewton

Hi All,
Many thanks for this info.
Its amazing that gold can be found on "flogged" ground still.
Its hard work but its still out there.
Detrackozi or anyone any pointers for the Castlemaine area.
As i would like to give Castlemaine a try soon.
Cheers,
Tim Eureka

Thanks GoldstalkerGPX
Little off topic but...
I have some fella's at work that are right into old cars and anything associated with - one bloke looks like he came rightout of the late fifties early sixties hair and all - I believe he was born 30 years to late .
They go to every swap meet in the State with trailer loads of stuff to sell but always seem to come back with more than they take.
I wont be out this weekend. Spending some time with my family

Looking for a goldfield closer to Melb as per my previous post today and came across this thread. Care to elaborate on the above statement Ararat?
