Good evening everyone.
I`m in the hunt for a pinpointer to use along side my Infinium & have read a few reviews on varying brands .
I`m trying to get a general consensus on what works best without doing the mods I have read people have done to reduce interference. I just want to buy one & use it straight out of the box.

From what I read,When turned off ,Garrett pinpointers interfere with the detector while detecting. true or false or sometimes ? Are they any good ?
When turned on, Minelab pro- find gets interference from the detector itself. true or false or sometimes? Are they any good ?
Some people recommend the vibrating pinpointer. Are these any good and how deep will they go ? What brand is best ?
Some people recommend the audio type pinpointer. Are these any good and how deep will they go ? What brand is best ?
Some people say the light on some pinpointers is hard to see. Is this true or a common thing ?

Is there one that leaps out above the rest as the ducks guts & can`t be beaten for performance & quality ?

Thanx for any input.

Hi HH,

The Garret one does interfere with a minelab from quite far away even when switched off. Seen it with my own eyes. Not sure if the same
applies to the finny.

The minelab one when switched on plays havoc with the detector but I just switch of the audio on my booster.

The minelab one has a vibrate and audio tone at the same time. Not sure if you can switch either off as I didn't try and have lost mine in the bush. Never used any other brands.

I would think that the LEDs would all be similar.

I don't know what other brands do in terms of depth and functionality or if garret has fixed the issue with being picked up by a minelab. I will be buying another minelab one if They don't pick me up as a top tier tester for the new machines Very Happy

G'day HH

In the search box , if you type in " Do you use a Pinpointer " - there are about 10 posts on pin pointers

I'm not familiar with the Infinium , but would think the Garrett would be fine .

I own both the Garrett one + the Minelab Profind & have carried / used both out on the Goldfield
with my 5000 , whilst I don't have the vast experience & many hours out on the Goldfield , in my
Opinion , the interference , so far for me , has been minimal .

I use Minelab one and i am happy with it.

Help me locating the target when dig a deep holes.(saves me a lot of energy)

I move a detector a little bit and have no problem interfering with pinpointer.

Thanks ,fellas.
I read all the posts before I put this thread up & was just trying to make heads & tails of them.
Looks like Garrett & Minelab units are a much of a muchness.

How deep do both brands go ? Does one penetrate the ground more than the other ?
Is one or the other simply better to use ?
Is it worth spending more for a minelab over a garrett or other cheaper brands ?
Is interference a real problem or just a niggling nuisance ? Someone mentioned in one of the posts about having to modify a pinpointer to eliminate interference.

Thanks,
HUSH HUSH

I've got a Garrett & never had a problem with it with my GPX4000.

I use it now to scan my tailings from the Gold Hog and will do the same with the tailings from my Keene 151 Vibrostatic Dry Washer.

Wouldn't be without it!! Very Happy

Thanks ladies & gents. I am trying to watch the videos ,but due to poor reception where I am located , videos take awhile to load & continually buffer .
I will try to watch them from a landline computer when I can , later on. The fun of wireless internet !!!

I went & tried a minelab pro pointer 2 , yesterday & wasn`t that impressed with it. I put my car key infront of it & the pointer wouldn`t pick it up any further than 2 inches away. I was expecting a lot more than that. The sensitivity was turned up & down ,but made no difference. It picked up a miner`s pick from 6 or 7 inches.
There isn`t a tuning procedure , is there ? The bloke showing me the pointer was very helpful , but told me the only adjustment was the +/- buttons.

I have never owned one ,hence all the questions.

Thankyou.
