G'day Kudu

Since your referring to a Section 20A,meaning WA,Live prospecting licenses, are referred to as currently operating Mining Leases. Only with the permission of the mining lease holders, are you allowed to go on a live ML and fossick or prospect for minerals including gold. A section 20A alone, does not give you the right to prospect on any current live mining leases,"BUT",it does give you the right to prospect all around the boundaries of a live ML,If your section 20A falls within those Exploration Lease boundaries ie,[the square hectares that you've chosen on your section 20A].Besides section 20A applies only to Exploration Leases, and can only be given out for that purpose only.

Hi Ausdept

Contact the Mines Dept where you intend to do the detecting. WA Mines dept in the case of WA (Dept of Mines and Petroleum). They will give you all the info. It takes about 3 weeks to get the permission, but they will have all the knowhow.

G'day mate, I phoned them up today regarding getting a WA miner's right, and I was pleased to experience a very motivated bureaucracy at the other end of the phone, so thats what I found there, I have a question, is it okay to go ahead and apply for a sec20a without having first attempted to get access through writing to the EL holder?

G'day Ausdept.

The only time you would need permission to contact the exploration lease holder for access on their EL leases is if the road you're traveling on (to get to your granted Section 20 area) passes through a live mining lease.
Once upon acquiring your Sec 20 keep the original copy and send a copy to the relevant Pastoralist and Mining
company who hold the EL leases, informing them that you'll be prospecting within your granted section 20A area
sometime between the date shown on your sec 20. So the answer to your question,"is it OK to apply for a section 20A before applying to the EL holder for permission to access his ELs?" is YES.

Cheers kon61.

G`Day Ausdebt,

Just to expand on this a little, sometimes it pays to contact the holder of the granted Exploration License to see if they will give you permission to detect on their E/L as some e/l`s have many more graticular blocks in them then you are able to peg under a section 20A... ie a max of 10. If you get a refusal then you can go ahead and apply for a section 20a. You can have several section 20a`s on the go at any one time ,but only one per E/L.

The correct term for WA tenements is ....Exploration License....Prospecting License.... and Mining Lease.
