Vic Goldfields find near Chewton
Hi there, you may recall my last post lamenting that I had not had a find for a while.
Anyway, I persisted and, thanks to those who PM'd me with possible areas to go in the Castlemaine diggings, I managed to unearth a 5.4 gm nugget (with a bit of quartz in it). Boy, was I stoked. First day in that area and in the first half hour, located on a slope between two other digs I did which turned up lead bullets. It was down about 2 inches and really screamed so I didn't think it would be GOLD.

WOW that's a beauty!!! Congrats on your well earned find..
As they say, you have to dig a tonne of lead, before you get that nice yellow.

Great find AnnieL well done
It's always a nice surprise when you get a shallow screamer that turns out to be gold, it doesn't happen very often but when it does ,it's magic
especially when you expect it not to be gold.
Cheers Mark

Re: Vic Goldfields find near Chewton
Thanks guys & ladies for your kind comments. Yes, Lee, Queenslander - but NSW origin born!
I did get a rake out and re-do the surrounding area without success. I was using my new Nugget Finder 14x7 coil (with GPX5000). I find it a very sensitive coil, so much so it seems to 'pick up' on my pick on my side and the probe so I have to put them right around behind me. Maybe I should have used a smaller coil but I was keen to try it out.
